Going the Way of All the Earth

Around mid-April, Priscilla was once again happy to go home. During her previous visits, she had seen Nelson up and about. Maybe sometimes he had seemed a little weak, but at least he had looked like himself, especially when he was seated in his favorite recliner.
But this time, when she arrived at the Austin home in Prendergast, she was woefully unprepared for her father’s deteriorated condition. Priscilla had little personal experience with terminal illnesses, and she was disturbed to see Nelson experiencing bouts of severe pain and that his weight was considerably reduced. But Nelson still possessed his mental faculties, and he was able to walk a little.
