CHAPTER 8 Of Her Own Volition Priscilla took her time driving to Columbus. The knowledge of how this would annoy Senator Callahan made detours and stops to see old friends all the more irresistible. One was Sedge in Atlanta. She had not been sure, the last time she had seen him when he visited in Tallahassee, whether they would ever contact each other again. But she had always liked Sedge, and she had decided when she started to drive north from Florida that she would try friendship on for size with him. “Yes, Priscilla, you know I’m glad to see you,” he said, after she arrived at his home. “But your decision to work for the senator in that rat hole at the Statehouse is a mystery to me. You’re not secretly in love with him, are you?” “Nah, Sedge, you know better than that,” she said.
