Nobody’s Victim
Back at work after Thanksgiving recess, Priscilla felt as if she had taken a job in the belly of political treachery. Some lawmakers, she thought, would make characters in The Godfather look meek, for they would actually “step over their ailing mothers for political gain,” as Senator Callahan had once told her. The senator had also shared a story with her about one of his colleagues who had used his own wife’s virtue to get something he wanted. When the man for whom he had asked the favor expressed dissatisfaction with his wife, “he sent the man his daughter!”
