Jason Jonas drives a jeep very slowly down a rugged dirt road in the Yucatan dry forest on a bright, hot afternoon. He is in light cargo pants and sturdy training shoes. The sleeves of his hiking shirt are rolled up. He looks tired, but his focus is absolute. Periodically he checks his cell phone screen. More than once he hauls a spray bottle of some light, misty liquid and sprays it on bare arms, neck, and ankles. He looks keenly into the bushes and trees around him, in all directions. An AK-47 rests on his back in a sling over his shoulder.
