"How long do you feel like it's been after you?" I said after a pause.
"I don't know if it's something that's always been or whether it's something that just woke up when I was born and found me. But it's always been in my life. Ever since I've been aware as a person, it's been coming for me, from my earliest memories.
"I make myself a target when I get too settled, and it has time to draw a bead and head to me. It never rests, and it never stops moving. No matter how happy I am in any place, I have to pick up and go or it closes on me. I can beat it that way, but that's the only way. It's always been like that.
