Natasha’s POV
It has been a week since Luther took my baby away from me and exactly a week since I saw David, my son that Abigail helped me to hide. I was so scared that Luther would find out I had given birth to twins so I had instructed Abigail to keep him safe until I got discharged.
“Hello sister, I came to check up on you,”
I scoffed, deciding to ignore her. Hoping she’d take the hint and leave but she didn’t. “Why are you here Crystal?”
“I just came to inform you that Luther has killed your son. He claims it was an accident but we both know what he is capable of,” she said so nonchalantly like my son was a joke and my heart broke into a thousand pieces. My ears were ringing so loud, I couldn’t hear anything else that she was saying, nor did I want to.
“You’re joking,” I scoffed but deep down inside me, I knew she wouldn’t come all this way to taunt me.
Crystal snickered and showed me a picture. I screamed, one hand on my fast-racing heart.
Tears rolled down my cheeks uncontrollably as I struggled to produce the right words. Even though I had known Luther to be a monster, I just thought he would at least look after his offspring, his flesh and blood!
Crystal blew me a kiss and walked out of the room, laughing like the wicked witch of the west and the last piece of my heart broke.
They had murdered my son. “I will avenge my son, that I promise you!”
After a while, I decided to run away.
“Where do you plan to go?” Nurse Abigail asked as she drove out of the hospital and I shrugged, tears rolling down my cheeks as I reached for my son who was wrapped in a blanket and sleeping peacefully in a car seat.
I had told her everything about Luther taking my child to Crystal’s unsavory news and then my plan to escape and she insisted on helping.
I didn’t have a plan yet but I just knew I couldn’t stay.
In another few minutes, we arrived at the border and I got down, carrying my son from the car seat. A tear dropped on his face and I sniffed, wiping it off. My heart was in pieces because of my son’s death and even the fact that I was going to run away with his brother wasn’t doing much to up my mood.
“You’ll be okay. Take care of yourself and remember your son needs you to be strong for him and his brother.” Abigail whispered in my ear as she hugged me and I sobbed loudly on her shoulder, my heart in pieces.
Goodbyes done and dusted, I walked off, each step I took brought me farther and farther away from Luther, Crystal, and the evil that lurked around in that pack. I would be back to get my revenge on him but for now, keeping David safe was my priority.
“Over here sir,” I heard after some time as I walked deeper into the woods and froze, going into protective mode. I held my son closely to my chest and took a defensive stance ready to fight to the death to protect my only surviving child.
“Freeze,” I heard and took off running into the forest, my legs barely touching the ground and my heart beating wildly in my chest.
Footsteps behind me told me that whoever was after me was very interested in capturing me so I didn’t stop running. Just when I thought I had lost them, I bumped into a tree and fell to the ground, my child safely tucked in my arms.
“Don’t you know it’s dangerous for a woman with a baby to be lurking around the world at this ungodly hour?” I heard and I shivered in fear, my child in my arms was my only concern.
The place suddenly got brighter as someone turned on a lamp and then I was staring at the most beautiful and scary-looking face I had ever seen.
“Mate,” He announced all of a sudden, and then barely two seconds later, my mate acknowledged him as “Mate,” as well, shocking me and almost bringing me to my needs. The only thing that kept me from passing out was my son’s weight in my arms.
“Is that my son?” He asked and I Frowned turning to leave but was stopped by one of his men who stood behind me, blocking my way. “Is that him?” He asked again and I turned to look at him.
“Who are you?” I asked instead and he ignored me, reaching for my son.
Even though he was a total stranger, I didn’t feel like I was in any danger with him so I didn’t stop him when he reached for David but watched as he cradled him in his big hands.
He met my eyes, he frowned and I shivered. “I have been waiting for this day for many years now. Why did you take so long?”
“Can I have my son back?” I prepared to bolt from there but he grabbed one of my hands instead.
“It's time for you to come home,” he signaled to one of the men who looked around as if searching for something. Satisfied with whatever he found, he made a sign back to him and he stretched out a hand towards me. “It’s not safe here, we should leave as soon as possible.”
I did not doubt that he could handle any form of danger that could come our way so I didn’t move an inch but rather pulled my hand out of his.
I wanted, no, I needed an explanation. Why did he call my son his? What did he mean by he had been waiting for years? Why did my wolf acknowledge him as our mate? What did he mean by home?
“I demand an explanation,” I told him stubbornly and he narrowed his eyes.
“We could do this the easy way or the hard way,” he informed me and I shivered at the meaning behind his words but stood my ground. With a sigh, he held my hand in a tight grip and started walking, forcing me to follow him. I struggled to break free but he was too strong.
Left with no choice, I found myself following him to a place only the goddess probably knew.
