SELENE
My name was called at midnight, a police officer appeared at the door of the main hall and read from a list. Three names and mine was the second one.
Kael's hand tightened on mine. "You're okay," he said quietly. "Just stick to what we said."
I stood up and smoothed my dress, my hands were not shaking. I made sure of that. I took a breath and walked toward the door like I had nothing to hide.
The officer led me down a hallway I had never been in before. Away from the main hall, from the noise and the waiting students. It got quieter with every step.
We stopped at a room near the back of the administrative wing, the officer knocked twice and opened the door.
It was a small room, a table and two chairs, a single light overhead that was too bright for the size of the space.
