Blaze: I was buried in paperwork, but my brain wasn’t cooperating. The shop’s books needed sorting, a parts order had gone sideways, and Saint’s temporary leave meant I had to stay twice as sharp. Didn’t matter. My head was stuck in the same damn place. Kat. And Phoenix. That soft glow in her eyes last night when she watched me rock the baby? I’d seen it. Felt it hit like a freight train in my chest. I should’ve been thinking about numbers. Territory. Club politics. Instead, I was wondering if Phoenix had eaten all her animal crackers and whether Kat had gotten any sleep. I rubbed the back of my neck and stood, pacing across the office floor. Just as I passed the desk, I heard the front door open and a chorus of delighted gasps followed by that tiny, unmistakable voice. “HI PHOENIX!”
