Shay: It was 2 a.m. The road were dark and empty, matching my aching heart. Tears fell like rain from my eyes, blurring the road ahead. By the time I pulled up to Kat’s duplex, my hands gripping the steering wheel so tightly my knuckles hurt. My heart was still hammering, the adrenaline from my escape refusing to settle. The rural side of town was quiet, the only sound my engine idling before I shut it off. I climbed out, my legs weak beneath me.
