Kat: The sun had dipped low, bleeding gold and peach through the hospital windows when Blaze gently shook me awake. “Hey baby,” his voice was low, almost reverent. “Saint just came out. Shay’s awake. She wants to see us.” I blinked, groggy and emotionally wrung out. I hadn’t realized I’d fallen asleep curled into the corner of the stiff hospital couch, my knees tucked up beneath Blaze’s jacket. My neck ached, and my eyes burned. But those words—Shay’s awake— shot through me like a jolt of adrenaline and sorrow all wrapped up in one. “Is she… really okay?” I asked, my voice cracking.
