Chapter 10: Red Woman

1496 Words
Jorden’s POV: We set Dom and Eliza free and tucked ourselves away for them to spend time bonding. They roll about and play fight, snuggle and wander with one another. All I can think is about Nathan and his words. Is he being honest? If he is, why is he so indecisive? Is it possible for us three to be together once again? I wonder how Trevor is handling things, it is his brother after all. They have been without one another for years, now here we are all together and things aren’t how they should be. Or maybe they are and it’s the mate bond, my heat or the change from wolf to lycan. Whilst I run through possible options, I sense Eliza becoming panicked. Pushing myself to see through her eyes, I spot Dom crouching with his teeth bare and a throaty growl erupting. I mind link him, “Dom, what do you sense?” Keeping my eyes in the general direction he’s looking. Finally, I notice a woman approaching us. She’s cloaked in a red grown, with fire red hair. Her eyes are completely white. And that’s when I recall the old tales; this woman is a witch. Tensing at the thought of this witch within our pack boarders, I link Trevor, “Should we call for back up?” I ask my mate. “Let’s see what she wants, darling.” He stated firmly, with no fear. Nodding, I stand behind him but to his left as the witch stops at the tree line. My nerves rigid, ready to defend my mate and pack should it come to that. “The king and his luna,” the witch states with a brow raised. Dom growls at her, making her laugh madly. “Don’t growl at me pup, I’m here to see how far you’d go to protect what is yours.” She states. I link Dom, “Stay in wolf form, I’m shifting.” Before he can argue, I shift and glance at Dom before turning to the witch before us. He’s livid at me for doing this and I’ll probably have to deal with him later. Internal face palm. “What can we call you,” I ask her, moving beside Dom to stroke his fur in an attempt to ease his wariness. “Call me the Red Woman. And you are the Luna, Jorden.” Her matter-of-fact statement forces a chill to run up my spine but I compose myself and continue my ministrations on my mates fur. “That’s correct. And to answer your question, yes, we would do whatever it takes to protect what it ours,” my voice firm and unwavering, my eyes not breaking from hers. A small smirk crosses her face, “Ah, the Luna calls the shots? This is new,” she probes causing Eliza to growl at this woman. “No, we make decisions together, Red Woman. What’s your business with us?” I demand, growing tired of this introduction. “You have a mole within your pack. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears to the floor,” she warns nonchalantly. I stand there watching her, assessing her facial expression and stance. I can’t say I trust her but my gut is telling me there’s truth to her words. “Say we believe you, why would you help us? And if you say we are to keep an eye open for a traitor, what should we be looking for? Surely if you have this information, you have more to share?” I withdraw from my mate and step closer to the witch. Dom growls, but I link him to calm down and to trust me. He doesn’t move forward but I can tell he’s ready to attack. “You’re going to make your pack happy, Luna,” she nods in approval, “And you’re correct; why trust me? I’ve given you nothing to earn your trust, so I will share with you something I haven’t yet shared with anyone,” she turn and moves to a nearby tree stump and takes a seat, crossing her legs and folding her hands together. Dom and I turn our bodies to face her now. Waiting for her response. “My mate lies within your pack, I cannot allow him to die for the sake of another. Should my mate choose to accept me, I would like the king and his Luna to allow me entrance. This is a show of good faith, hopefully a bridge to a friendship,” she watches us carefully. We stay in our stance, waiting for the rest. “At this time, I’m only aware that there are other witches which have their grubby fingers in something they won’t succeed in. I know this because they’re of my coven.” That’s when Dominic growls and Trevor takes over, phasing back into human form. Walking up to me, grabbing my hand, he eyes the Red Woman with distain. “If you’re from the coven of traitors, isn’t there a chance you’ll end up backing your family when it comes time for their deaths?” He questions with authority, his forest green eyes glowing. If this weren’t a pressing matter, that look would’ve been enough for me to drop to my knees and watch as I make his eyes glow from that forest green to black. Mmm, f*****g sexy mate I have. Shrugging my shoulders, I redirect to the matter at hand, putting a harness on my s****l desires. She stands and approaches us, “I’ve lived for 324 years without a mate. I will not give up the chance to have him, my king.” Promise laces her voice. Trev stands there for a minute evaluating her before nodding and extending his free hand to her. She doesn’t waste a second, latching their hands together in a firm shake. “We will meet here in 3 days. It will stay between you, Trevor and I. Is that clear?” My luna voice radiating. —— Trev POV: When Jorden’s luna aura radiated just now I almost mounted her. Her ability to take charge yet include me is indescribable. She’ll make the pack proud. Dom is dancing around my head at how our mate takes charge. “Yes, Luna. I look forward to meeting you again soon. May I request a favor?” The witch asks, her eyes not leaving Jorden’s. Jorden nods, giving my hand a squeeze. “Please watch out for the one named Steven. He’s my mate. I don’t believe he has involvement with any of this but if he does, please place him in a cell. Do not allow him to delve deeper into chaos.” Her voice wavers, showing her genuine concern for her mate. The witch continues, “I know betrayal is a death sentence but please, allow me to help you find this mole in return for his life, should he be involved in this treason.” Touched, I look to Jorden and she’s already watching me with a smile on her delicate lips. I know she loves love, so of course I’ll agree but the alpha in me wants to decapitate any traitor of our pack. “Of course, Lady Witch,” I answer. Both the women start laughing, but I’m in total confusion, “What are you laughing at?” I question them with a raised brow, watching my mate. Jorden laughs a reply, “You! I know how difficult that must’ve been for you to try to show respect to a witch let alone trying to figure out how to address her!” She continues her laughter with the witch, “And you go with “Lady Witch!” Hearing her laugh is music. I swear, I’ll make her laugh every day for the rest of my days. “Alright, alright. Enough poking fun at me,” I tug my mate to my side, wrapping my arms around her in a loving embrace. “Lady Witch is fine, or you can call me Hannah. That’s my given name, my king,” she chimes smugly. “Hannah it is,” Jor answers. “Same time in three days, yes?” I ask her once again. “Yes, my king. Luna,” she bows her head and heads off the way she first came. I turn to face Jorden head on, my arms around her waist. I just stare into her eyes and take in the golden swirls of them. “Can you teleport us back home? I think we should be quick about a shower to wash off any of her scent. I don’t want any questions from pack members,” she insists. I can’t help but smile at her. She’s taking her lead as Luna so amazingly. “Yes, my love. Let’s go wash her stench off,” I agree. Before she can answer, we’re already within our bathroom connect to our room.
