Chapter 1
“Rrrrrrrriiing” my alarm starts screaming in my ear as I slam my hand on it.I jump up out of bed with excitement to start my new waitressing job.I get on the uniform the manager gave me yesterday when She hired me on the spot. I race out the door snatching a bagel with cream cheese, pouring coffee my roommate made before she left this morning. As I throw my food down in a hurry I think to myself that this job is a fresh start for me.When I get outside I bring in the bright lights and the noise of traffic. I have always hated New York, I can’t wait to leave this place. “TAXI” I yelled as I flail my arms up and down. I see three taxis fly past me to pick up other woman, more apealing than me.I start yelling louder “TAXI” and one slams on the breaks, squealing to a halt.. atlas a way to get to work. I take a look at my reflection, my small framed body being swallowed up by my apron, my wild brunette curls failing to be tamed by my scrunchie, should I go back and straighten my hair? “Hello i***t get in the car”!the driver shouts.Nope I guess not,it’s to late now..I jump in and greet the driver while she shoots dirty looks at me through the rear view mirror.I watch the buildings as we pass and can see the restraunt aproaching when the driver says”that’s ten bucks ma’am” I bat my eyes and yell “sorry I’m broke” throwing six dollars and a few quarters running towards the entrance, decorated with loads and loads of vibrant balloons.
Vincent’s POV
As I look out the window of my limos dark tinted windows, I remember my father and I ponder about how he poured his sweat and tears into his work.He took a lot of pride in his work and left them all to me. “Are you excited about the grand opening?” My driver asks as we pull into my favorite coffee shop down the road.”Yes” truth is I’m worried about following in my fathers footsteps, all he did was care about his work and never married after my mom passed away when I was ten years old. I’m twenty six and still haven’t found any woman I even care about. “Well we are here, good luck sir” he says “thanks , pick me up at 4”. I demand “without a doubt sir” spewing his words as he drives off. I step into the building and everyone cheers and claps at my arrival.
So this is what it’s like to be at home.
