It was a Monday morning in Faith’s house, but not the usual kind. Faith was leaving for school today. Her friend Favour was at the house with them; she would be following Faith and her father to the school since her own parents couldn’t drop her off.
They both couldn’t sleep the night before. They stayed up talking about the school — the hostel, the classes, and all the things they imagined. At dawn, they woke up very early, packed everything they needed, and made breakfast for the whole house. It would be Faith’s last time doing that before leaving.
“Good morning, girls,” Mrs. Adams greeted with a smile on her face.
“Good morning, Mom,” they both replied, smiling back.
“I see you two have been busy. And I can tell you didn’t sleep — I heard your voices through the night,” she said, laughing softly while examining the food on the dining table. “Well, it’s normal. During my time, I couldn’t wait either.”
Mr. Adams and his two sons came out too. “Waking me up with this heavenly aroma,” he said teasingly, “may the Lord be with you.”
“Amen,” they all responded with smiles, bowing slightly.
Mr. Adams hurriedly sat down and his sons followed. Faith served them generously and went back to the kitchen. He took a bite and nodded.
“This tastes nice, my dear.”
“Thank you, Daddy.”
“God bless you.”
“Well, I hope you girls are getting ready,” he added after a while. “We leave in an hour and a half so I can get back home on time.”
“We’re done packing, Dad,” Faith replied. “We just need to freshen up and get ready.”
“Girls, that’s enough cleaning,” Mrs. Adams said. “Leave the rest for me. Come and join us for breakfast.”
“Okay, Mama,” they both answered, gently cleaning their hands with a towel before sitting down.
“Faith,” her first younger brother said between bites, “I’ll soon be done with high school. I’ll come and join you where you’re going.”
Faith smiled. “Yes, and I’ll be there to guide you.”
They all ate breakfast together as a family, laughing over jokes. When they were done, they cleaned up the dining table. Mr. Adams went in to get ready, and shortly after, Faith and Favour did the same.
