Dear Diary,
Today is the day that I put my fate into Brown’s hands. I’ve been up since 4 o’clock reviewing everything for my application and making sure it was worthy of sending. All I have to do is press submit on my computer, and then the waiting game begins. A simple click of a mouse, and my entire future is up in the air until I get that letter back. Of course, I put my applications in at other schools, but the one I really want to get into is Brown. Fingers crossed? 1...2...3… *click.* It’s done.
Xoxo,
Izee
I pulled up to my school blaring All Time Low again. I was late for band, but I’m sure Mr. Jensley will understand once I tell him about my application. I headed out to the field, but no one was there. I went inside and the first thing that hits me is the smell of the new girl’s perfume. I get so distracted that I almost ran straight into her. She turns around and looks at me before saying “Hey, my name’s Elizabeth, but you can call my Liz. I’m pretty sure we’re neighbors, right?”
I stutter out “Y-yeah, I’m p-pretty s-sure we are.” She doesn’t seem to notice my stutter, though, which was a relief.
“I thought maybe you’d like to come over after the big game on Friday. I’m having a little get together, and I thought it would be the perfect time to get to know you since we live right next door to each other.”
“Uh, yeah. I’ll swing by, what time?” I said, trying to hold back my excitement.
“The party starts at 11, but if you want to come over right after the game we can get ready together.”
“Okay, sounds like a plan.” Oh my f*****g god! The hot new girl, Liz, just asked you to her party! What are you gonna wear? Wait, she wants me to get ready over there too! Holy s**t!
Veronica interrupted my thoughts by jumping in front of me.
“Hey, were you just talking to that new girl?”
“Yeah, she invited me to her party this Friday?”
“Really?!”
“Yeah, she wants me to go over after the game so we can get ready together. I was super surprised, but it sounds like a fun time.”
“Great! Do you think her brother will be there?”
“Who’s her brother?”
“Adam.”
My heart skipped a beat when I heard his name. Veronica knew about me and Adam’s history, so she barely talked about him. But she seemed thoroughly surprised when she saw my reaction to his name.
“Wait, you didn’t know that was Adam’s sister?”
“Um, no. Adam never mentioned anything about having a sister to me before.”
“Oh, damn. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to blurt it out like that then.”
“No, it’s okay. I just don’t understand why I didn’t know.”
“Well, from what I’ve heard is that their mom ran off with some rich guy when they were babies. She took Elizabeth with her and left Adam with their father. I guess her and the rich dude broke up, and now Elizabeth and their mom are back in town.”
“Oh my god, I never knew that. I mean, I knew his mom wasn’t in the picture, but he never talked about it. I guess I know why now.”
“Yeah, it’s pretty f****d up. Anyway, I’ve gotta run to class before Mr. Dickface counts me tardy for the second time this week.”
“Okay, see ya!” I yelled after her, feeling shocked.
I went to Mrs. Savilly’s class, barely making it in before the tardy bell rang. I glance over at Adam, and then at Liz. Damn, this should be interesting.
