Emily took slow painstaking steps into her room. She flipped the switch, and when the lights were on, she scanned the room. Julia, her roommate was not in yet. Emily then remembered, today was her day off. Emily didn’t know if to feel sad or thankful; she needed some space, but at the same time she wished Julia would around tonight. They would have both gossiped about some things, and that would have cheered Emily up, at least for the night. Emily let out a sigh, and began walking slowly towards her bed which was at the other end of the room. She sat on the bed, staring at the empty wall with the events of the day playing right in her head like a record. Once again, tears began to pour from her oval shaped brown eyes. She had cried for about two minutes nonstop, before she finally wiped her face, and sprang up from her bed. She walked over to the small reading table in the room, and took out a piece of paper from the exercise book lying on the table, and proceeded to grab a pen from the pen holder. She then sat on the wooden chair in front of the table and began to scribble some words onto the paper. When she was done, she stood up, went over to her bed and collapsed on it.
The morning came quickly, the mansion was filled with the nuzzling of the maids and other house workers. The party which took place the other night had left everywhere in a mess. So, all hands were on deck to clear every part of the house. Mrs. Smith stood, her palms rapped around her waist; the look on her face was a twisted, crooked and fed up look. Her chest heaved up and down as her eyes combed through the busy house from where she stood. A maid came rushing by with some dirty dishes in her hand, before Mrs. Smith halted her.
“Where the bloody hell is Emily?” she asked, her voice as hinted frustration and an anger which trying to be suppressed.
“Ma’am I don’t know, I haven’t seen her all morning” the maid answered and immediately continued to go her merry way. Mrs. Smith paced back and forth, thinking of all the words she needed to use to unleash her anger and disappointment, when she finally saw Emily approaching from a distance. She wasn’t on a uniform, rather she had worn her normal clothes, dragging her cloth box on her left hand, and clinginess over to her handbag which was on het right shoulder. Mrs. Smith stared at her, her eyes betraying confusion as she watched Emily approach.
“So what’s all these? I do not think it’s your day off” Mrs. Smith said, folding her arms this time with her eyes piercing into Emily’s . Emily let out a weak smile, before taking the handbag off her shoulders and pulling out something from it. She brought out a brown envelope and handed it over to Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Smith went through what was written on the body of the letter and instantly, she gasped. Mrs. Smith lifted her eyes and searched Emily’s pale face frantically.
“What on earth is the meaning of this? So sudden?” Mrs. Smith asked, her voice was already breaking at this point. Again, Emily let out another weak smile.
“I’m very sorry Mrs. Smith, but you know, I have to leave now. I need to travel out of here” Emily answered.
“Emily you are one of my finest workers in this mansion, now if you leave, I’ll be very handicapped here” Mrs. Smith remarked.
“I’m sorry ma’am , but I can’t stay here any longer. I just hoped this letter got to you, and it’s already done, so I guess I’ll start going now” Emily remarked. Almost immediately, she dragged her box and walked out of the house. She had already booked a cab which was waiting for her outside. Immediately, she left the house, got into the ride, and zoomed off. From the top of the building, Jason watched Emily enter into the car and move. When it seemed the car she was in had disappeared from sight, he swiftly shut the curtains of his window. He turned and took a look at Diane, who still slept soundly. He let out a smile as he watched her. While he was doing this, a sharp knock came to the door, shaking Jason off his trance. He headed for the door and cracked it open a bit.
“Good morning sir, sorry to disturb your sleep” the woman greeted, bowing her head deeply as she did so.
“Yeah good morning Mrs. Smith. Any news for me?” Jason asked in a hush tone.
“She dropped her resignation letter this morning, before I knew it, a car came to take her home” Mrs. Smith added. Jason nodded slowly, a weird and creepy smile spread all over his face.
“You’ve done well Mrs. Smith. Don’t worry, I’ll make it up to you, don’t worry” Jason assured. Mrs. Smith smiled before taking a bow and walking down the corridor. Jason smirked a bit, before he shut the door and turned back. Just as he turned, he saw Diane sitting up on the bed. He smiled at her, while she folded her arms and stared at him like he was some stranger.
“Good morning beautiful” Jason greeted.
“Who was at the door and why were you whispering?” Diane asked. Jason smiled again, before walking over to the bed and sat on it, just beside Diane.
“I was talking to one of the maids darling, wanted to surprise you a bit this morning” Jason said.
“With what?” asked Diane.
“With breakfast in bed baby. I just wanted to treat you specially this morning” Jason answered, his smile still plastered all over his face.
“Ohhh baby” Diane purred, before proceeding to wrap her arms around him. “Thank you so much, that’s so sweet”. Jason patted her back rhythmically,
“Anything for you my baby, anything”
