📘 Chapter 15: The Black Signal They reached Gregor’s coordinates two days later — an abandoned warehouse hidden beneath a collapsed train yard. It reeked of rust, oil, and secrets. Gregor was waiting, surrounded by screens and cables. “I decrypted more of the Valken files,” he said. “And found something worse than names.” He typed. A video loaded. Footage from a test site. A patient strapped to a gurney. Screaming. Veins darkening under artificial light. Scientists in black masks watching behind glass. Lena felt bile rise in her throat. “This is what they were doing?” she whispered. “Human augmentation. Failed. Over and over. Until they stopped testing and started disposing.” Jay clenched his fists. “They had a remote kill switch,” Gregor said. “A signal embedded in some subjects.” He hit play on another clip. A burst of static. A word flashing on screen: BLACK SIGNAL. The patient in the clip dropped dead instantly. “They didn’t just experiment,” Gregor said. “They controlled life and death from miles away.” Lena turned to Jay, her voice shaking. “How many of these patients survived?” Jay looked at her. “Maybe five. Maybe none.” Lena stared at the screen. Then whispered, “Then we find them.”
