ALPHA. BETA. OMEGA.

I rushed to the bathroom, my core aching from longing and hunger. This was all his fault. Lucian’s fault. I swore off men when my boyfriend chose to be monumentally stupid. But there was this charm Lucian had. I just couldn't explain it. My gaze fell on my toothbrush holder. The idea was pathetic, but my need was greater. I grabbed the electric toothbrush and stared at it for a while before I began to work. It wasn’t Lucian, but it was something. And I was beyond desperate. I used my other hand to unclip my bra hook as I watched my breasts slide free, n*****s already hard and anticipating. I dropped the toothbrush and began to use my fingers. I used the second hand to massage my breasts as soft moans escaped my mouth. I was about to c*m, I could feel it. The necessary release coiling in my belly. Then I heard a sudden knock on the door. I hoped it was Lucian. If it was him, I would drag him inside without a second thought, consequences be damned. I slipped into my robe, leaving the belt loose and opening it just enough for him to catch a glimpse of my cleavage. Hopefully, it'd catch his attention. But when I pulled the door open, I froze. It was Derek. He stood there impossibly handsome. How had I failed to notice him until now!? It was probably because I was always focused on Lucian. "Uhhh, you dropped your bracelet at the ball," he mumbled, his eyes sweeping over me quickly, then back to my face. It was the bracelet my mother had given me for my last birthday, the only thing that made me feel closer to her. "I noticed it the first time we met, and again tonight," he said, holding the silver chain out to me, his fingers brushing mine as I took it back. I knew the move. I knew what he was doing. He wasn't Lucian, but in that moment of raw, unspent need, I didn't care who he was. I pulled him in, my hand grabbing his collar, yanking him inside. His lips crushed onto mine. The kiss was not tender; it was a hungry agreement. Two souls desperate for touch. His kiss was everything the moment demanded: hard, unexpected, and consuming. The bracelet slipped from my numb fingers, dropping silently on the tiled floor. His body pressed against mine, as he used one hand to cup my cheek and the other to pull the rope holding my robe, revealing part of my body. Derek moaned, a low, primal sound that vibrated deep in my chest. He didn't ask; he simply moved. His hand slipped under the open front of my robe, finding my waist. He walked me backwards, his mouth never leaving mine until my back hit the edge of the sink. He lifted me without effort, pushing me up to sit on the cool counter. The action forced my legs apart, exposing me fully beneath the robe. I didn't resist; I wrapped my legs tightly around his hips, pulling him closer, demanding the friction. "I need you," I whispered against his mouth, It wasn't love or even liking; it was a pure, need for connection. A convenient escape. His gaze dropped, dark and intense, taking in the sight of my exposed body, the remains of my previous attempts still evident on my skin. "I know," he breathed. He didn't waste time on talk. His hand found the damp, sensitive core between thighs. He played with it, making me shudder. I was losing my mind already. "I need you inside." I could already feel the release that had been withheld previously dripping. He began taking his own clothes off. His muscles tightened as he began to fulfil my every need. Right there and then. It was rough and dangerous, nothing passionate. He just filled a hole that Lucian had carelessly dug. The sunlight hit my eyelids before I was ready. It was a sunny sunday morning. My head felt heavy, my body sore in ways I didn't want to think about, And the guilt slid in slowly. Not because I regretted anything. I mean, it's not like we were together anyway. I am more than capable of sleeping with whoever I wanted to - but because of the unsettling confusion. I stared at the ceiling for what felt like a minute breathing in and out recalling last night. I wondered what type of werewolf Derek was. I recall Lucian telling him to stay out of his territory. Curiosity got the best of me. After a quick bath, I dressed in a casual tee and baggy pants. It was a comfortable style I used to wear when I was still a journalist. I got to the diner twenty minutes later. Only a few people were there. Thank God. Eli spotted me the moment I walked in. "Woah! Did you have a rough night?" his eyebrows shot up. "And why do you smell like Derek?" "Wait!" his eyes widened in realisation. "You slept with Derek, didn't you?" "I didn't want to." I muttered "Of course you didn't," he teased. "I don't blame you though, I mean, he's a walking temptation." "Eli!" I smacked his arm playfully. "That's not what I came here for." "I want to understand your world since I'm part of it now." He nodded, pulled a pen from behind his ear, and flipped a napkin like he was about to teach me math. “Alright. Lesson one: Omegas are emotional anchors. No, they’re not weak. They feel bonds. They sense shifts. Most of them don't have packs for different reasons." “Derek’s an omega?” “Yep. One of the strongest I know. Omegas aren't usually as strong as other wolves, but Derek mastered different fighting techniques to ensure his survival after what happened with his pack." "Pack?" "Yeah, he wasn’t always an omea. " Eli continued, drawing circles on the napkin. “Betas keep the pack together. We’re support systems. And alphas…” He sighed dramatically. “Alphas are stubborn idiots who feel too much and talk too little.” he was obviously teasing Lucian. I tried not to laugh. “Lucian isn’t—” “He is,” Eli cut in. “He’s the definition.” I clenched my jaw. “Then why is he acting like I’m some problem he doesn’t want to deal with?” Eli paused. For the first time, he didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he looked toward the doorway, then down at the napkin, then back at me. “Because,” he said slowly, “he thinks getting close to you puts you in danger.” Something cold touched the back of my neck. “Danger from what?” Eli hesitated again. "From our world. He doesn't want you to be a part of it." The silence that followed was louder than any answer he had given. LUCIAN'S POV The walk to Elder Marek’s cabin felt longer than usual. Not because of the distance. Because I was avoiding the truth the entire way. Tessa was here. Alive. Breathing the same air I breathed. Smiling at the same people I protected. And I couldn’t go near her. Couldn’t claim her. Couldn’t tell her the truth. Couldn’t let her memory come back yet. Because the moment she remembered what happened the night she disappeared…she would run from me. Maybe forever. The cabin door opened before I knocked. “You waited long enough,” the old man raspy voice growled. “Get in.” I stepped inside. The air smelled of herbs and old wood. “I need guidance,” I said quietly. “No,” Marek said, turning his back to me. “You need courage.” I stiffened. “You’ve felt the bond,” he continued. “She has not. That imbalance will break you both if you mishandle it.” “I’m not claiming her.” “Ah.” he laughed. “Still running?” “I’m protecting her.” Marek turned, eyes sharp as ice. “Protecting her from what, Lucian?” I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. Because the truth was choking me. Because the past wasn’t done with us. Because her being here meant something was waking up. Something I had sworn never to drag her into. Marek took a step closer. “You want a prophecy?” he hissed. “Here it is.” He placed a hand on my chest. “The day she remembers you…someone else will remember her too.” . My heartbeat stilled. “What does that mean?” I demanded. But Marek was already turning away. “Go home, boy.” “Marek—” "You will find out sooner or later - and trust me, you don’t want it to be later."
