‘Lainie? Can you hear me? Can you look at me?’
I could hear Bane’s velvety voice. It sounded very far away, like it was just a memory, and I’d have sounded really stupid replying to a memory. I was certain it was him though. Who else would have made such a fuss the moment they had tried to move him to a different room? He had been peacefully passed out all the way to the hospital but had woken with an angry yell the minute they tried to take a blood sample from me.
