Even the abysmal failure of his last attempt couldn’t keep Jake away once his shoulder had healed enough for him to drive a car. Early on Friday morning, less than a day after his unexpected release, Jake made the mistake of parking his car on the side of the road, half a kilometre from the Ashbrees’ front gate.
