Theidta knelt before him and offered him a smile, as sweet as an apple pie. “Yes. I would love to go out with you.” She said, which made the boy gape at her. His eyes were wide open, along with his mouth. He certainly didn’t expect her to accept. Neither did the future Beta who was hiding behind a tree and witnessing the unexpected occurrence. Theidta let out a chuckle and with her forefinger lifted his chin so that he closes his mouth. “ Why are you so shocked, Jake?” Theidta blinked. Jake cleared his throat and offered her a wide smile. “ Thank you. I mean…Uh… I didn’t expect that you would agree to go out with me. I just..” “What? Tell me the rumors you have heard.” Theidta narrowed her eyes at him, who chuckled and sat cross-legged on the ground. “ Well, I don’t know that much. But everyone knows that you are meant to end up with Christian.” Listening to the rumor, Theidta blinked twice. “ Why would anyone think that?” She asked, furrowing her brows. “ Because… you two are very close and... You never go out with anyone else.” Jake shrugged a shoulder. Theidta howled a laugh, clutching her stomach. Christian felt his heart drop as he looked at her laughing about the fact of them being together. “ No. We are not together, Silly. We are just.. Best friends. “ Theidta replied, which made Jake put his hand on his heart and heave a sigh. “ Well, that was very relaxing to hear. I was afraid that he might break my neck. “ He let out a chuckle. Theidta shook her head, and said, “ Not at all.” “ That’s good.” Jake smiled, and Theidta smiled back. Christian could feel their admiration for each other, from where he was hiding, which was far away from where the unexpected occurrence had taken place. He tuned out from their conversation and turned to leave. “ Go to her!” His wolf demanded. His wolf was trying to get out of him, and ran to Theidta, and the boy, and break his neck. His wolf wanted to keep her safe and sound, under his protection. He wanted her to only smile at him, only laugh at HIS jokes, and only look at HIM in the way she was looking at that stranger. “ Not now, Nero. Let her be happy. We were too late.” Christian muttered to his wolf and started into a run before his wolf could take over him and break the poor boy’s neck.
Jake stood up and lifted Theidta to her feet. “ So, when are you free?” Jake asked. “ Now.” She shrugged. “But..” “Yeah, I know I have classes. But….I don’t want to attend.” Theidta shrugged again. Jake had already guessed that she was upset, and he didn’t want to meddle with her matters if she doesn’t want to share it with him. He wanted her to be comfortable with him. So, he just smiled, and asked, “Do you want to go to the usual place? Or somewhere else?” Theidta grinned, and said, “The usual.”
“ JAKE??JAKE?WHAT?? YOU’RE CRAZIER THAN KENNETH!” Era shouted through the phone. “ You are hurting my ears!” Theidta cried out. “ Within a few days, your heart will hurt too. Don’t you know how Jake used to be when he was in school?” Era tried to calm herself by flipping through the channels on the television. “He has changed, Era. We have been practicing for a year now. And I know him more than any other boys in our pack.” Theidta tried to explain to her best friend. “ Theidta, one’s a thief, always a thief. And he is Lyla’s older brother! Your enemy’s brother. Don’t you think that Lyla must have convinced him to ask you out so she could make a move on Christian? My brother is her next target, everyone knows about this at school. Why don’t you?” Era was so frustrated with all the things that were happening that she forgot to hide the fact that she knows about the rumors, AND about her brother’s feelings. Theidta narrowed her eyes, and asked, “So, you know about the rumors?” Era’s thumb froze on the remote, her wide eyes staring at the recent crime scene. “Uh..Uh.” “Era! YOU KNEW!!” It was Theidta’s time to go berserk and scream at her best friend. “ Um... Yeah?” Era scratched the back of her neck and tried to chuckle but the line was already cut. “ Hello? Theidta?” She called into the phone. When no one answered, she stared at the phone and saw that Theidta was not connected to the line. Heaving a sigh, Era went back to flipping the channels while her mind wandered off to yesterday’s events. Did Kenneth really not know that his parents were coming to ask for her hand? HER HAND? She didn’t know that people still do that now. She should have expected it. After the moon goddess stopped blessing the werewolves with their mates, the packs are going wild. Mates were the only thing that was good in a werewolf’s cursed life but it has been taken away from the werewolves. It was really hard to find a capable Luna for the Alphas. So, she should have expected it. Kenneth isn’t the type of guy who would allow his parents to give the big news. He is the type of guy who will ask the girl first, that too, very dramatically. Maybe he didn’t know after all. Maybe he was telling the truth. Heaving a sigh, Era finally settled on a movie that she was going to watch, and she continued to focus on the movie, all thoughts of the future Alpha started to disappear from her mind.
Christian punched the dummy, which was filled with sand, so hard, that a gaping hole was made, out of which sand was spilling. “Stop, Mr.Delgado. Step aside, please.” He heard the trainer shout. Christian backed away from the sand dummy, as he was told to but he was glaring at the dummy as if it was the boy who proposed to Theidta in the middle of the woods and was easily accepted by her. He tried to put another hole in it through his gaze as if the boy was standing in front of him, and he dared to stare right back at him, the corner of his lips twitching, a smirk aching to appear on his lips. And Christian wanted to wipe that smirk from his face. “Mr. Delgado, What was the first lesson that I had given to you when you had come to my class?” Christian was distracted from the dummy as his trainer’s voice drifted to his ears. “ To never bring anger into the fighting arena,” Christian muttered, still staring at the dummy. His trainer looked at the dummy once and then looked back at his student. “ Why are you glaring at the poor dummy, Mr. Delgado? What did he do to you?” The trainer asked. When he received no answer, he shouted, “ANSWER ME!!” “ Nothing, Sir. Nothing.” The future Beta replied. The trainer exhaled through his nose, and asked, “ Then why is there a hole in it, Mr. Delgado?” “ I’m sorry, Sir. This won’t happen again.” Christian said, lowering his gaze. The trainer noticed his nerves which were visible, noticed his tightened fists, his jaw which ticked now and then, and the way he stood. “ Look at me, Mr. Delgado.” The trainer commanded. Christian did as he was told. The trainer noticed his eyes, which were burning with revenge, promising a ruthless fight if not death. “ Class dismissed.” The trainer shouted. And the students walked away from the arena and their trainer. Some looked at them and whispered, and some were happy that the class was dismissed early, some gave worried looks at their Beta, and some ignored everything altogether. Christian was still staring at his trainer, trying to calm his nerves down. He was still rooted in his position, trying to breathe but not letting his teacher know that he was breathing. And suddenly he came to his sense when a fist was closing in on his right eye. He stopped it with his left and furrowed his brows at his trainer. “ If you want to fight, I will give you a fight!” His trainer gritted out, and then came his other hand, to push the Beta out of his balance. Christian didn’t want to fight with his trainer, so he didn’t prevent his attack, and as a result, he was pushed far back from the trainer. “ I... I don’t want a fight.” Christian tried to calmly say. His trainer stalked him like he was closing in on his prey and ignored every word that came out of his prey’s mouth. Another punch advanced on the Beta and this time he dodged it. “Focus on the fight, Mr. Delgado.” His trainer prodded. And the Beta did as he was told. He advanced on the trainer, which was dodged by his trainer, again and again. And as his trainer kept on dodging his punches, and kicks, and kept on landing punches, strong and hard on him, The Beta lost his control. Suddenly he saw that boy’s face on his trainer and his mind went haywire. He forgot all the teachings, all the tricks that he was taught, and started fighting with his rage. His wrath fueled him. His wrath took to its ego when the trainer was able to land another kick on his left cheek. His wrath made him see red. His wrath didn’t allow him to see his trainer’s right fist which landed on his temple, and the Beta fell on the ground, wrapped with pure darkness.
“ What? How did he...I’m coming.” Theidta said through the phone. Jake kept staring at her, with his brows furrowed. Theidta ended the call and said to him, “ I’m sorry, Jake. I have to go. Christian is unconscious. “ Theidta stood up. “ What? Why? What happened?” Jake stood to his feet, too. “ I don’t know. Era didn’t tell me anything.” “Alright. Alright. I’ll take you home. Come on.” Jake said, after asking the waiter for the bill. “ No. You don’t have to. You can finish... Finish the food. “ Theidta tried to calm down while her mind was going around the fact that Christian was hurt, and was unconscious. “ It’s alright. Wait in the car. I’ll come after I settle the bill. I’ll be real fast.” Jake said, to which Theidta nodded and didn’t argue. Jake went to the owner of the burger shop, and said, “ Hey, Kris, We have to go, man. Thanks for the amazing burgers. You outdo yourself every time.” He smiled. “ Why? What happened?” Kristopher frowned at his friend. “ Well, it seems that our Beta has gotten into some trouble,” Jake whispered low. “What?” He whispered back. “ Yes. So, we have to cut our date short.” Jake pursed his lips. “ Alright, man. But I didn’t know that your Beta was reckless.” Kristopher scrunched his brows. “No. He is our future Beta.” Jake corrected. “ You mean, Christian?” Jake frowned as he listened to Kristopher. “ How do you know Christian?” He asked. “ Well, Kenneth told me everything about his pack. I’ll come too. Wait a sec.” He then turned to shout at one of his employees. “ Hey, Carlos, Take over.” He shouted, and they were out of the burger shop in an instant. Jake entered the car with Kristopher and started it. Theidta kept tapping her foot all the way back to Christian’s house. When the car stopped, she jumped out of it and ran straight to her best friend. But when she entered the house, a frown took place on her face. Not because of all the people that were present but because Christian was awake and laughing with the trainer. “ What the heck is going on?” She asked amongst the laughter and the giggles. Christian’s eyes fell on her and a smile was slowly appearing but as soon as he saw the boy, his laughter was taken over by rage.
