Full Circle
Another stormy evening. Like the one when my mother died. but this time I wasn't afraid, I waa safe.
I realized something, if my mother hadn't fought...... if the fire hadn't happened...... if the contract hasn't existed, I wouldn't have found this life. Pain shaped destiny.
The Choice
Standing on our balcony, watching the sunrise, harden wrapped his arms around me.
"what are you thinking?" he asked. "that love should never begin as a contract," i said softly. He kissed my forehead. "But it can end as a choice." and i chose him.
After The Fire
The smell of smoke lingered long after the fire had died. Even days later, it clung to everything, the walls, the furniture, the air itself was as of the house refused to forget what had happened.
Theresa stood by the window, hwe arms folded tightly across her chest. outside, the sky was calm, almost too calm, like nothing had happened. Like the world had not nearly ended just a few nights ago. Behind her, the house was quiet, too quiet. Grace sat on the couch, hugging her knees, her usual bright energy dimmed. She hadn't laughed since the night of the fire. every small noise made her flinch.
Ethan on the other hand ,had changed in a different way. He wasn't afraid, he was....... watching. Theresa had noticed it the morning after everything happened. He had stood by the door, staring outside like he expected someone to come back. Like he knew something the rest of them didn't. harden walked into the room slowly. His movements were careful, his body still healing from the burns amd injuries. But his eyes were sharp more alert than ever.
"have they eaten?" he asked quietly. Theresa nodded. "a little" . He glanced at the children. his gaze softened, but only for a moment. Guilt lived in his eyes now, heavy, permanent.
Grace woke up screaming. Theresa rushed into the room, heart racing. "its okay" she whispered, pulling her into her arms. "he's coming back," grace cried."i saw him" Theresa froze. "who?" Grace trembled. "the man... ..... victor...." across the hallway, Ethan stood in the dark. He had heard everything. But he didn't look scared. he looked........certain. The next morning, harden received a report. No body have been found in the warehouse. Victor Hale was officially listed as missing.Harden stared at the file for a long time, then slowly closed it."he's alive," he said. Theresa's breath caught. " no...... we saw the fire......no one could survive that ." Harden looked at her."you've seen what he is capable of." silence filled the room. Because deep down they both knew this wasn't over.
Later that evening, ethan sat alone in his room, laptop open. security footage, new clips, reports. He replayed the warehouse fire again and again. frame by frame. And then, he saw it. A shadow moving behind the flames.A figure escaping through the back. Ethan leaned slowly. his face darkened."i knew it," he whispered.
Downstairs, Theresa stood by the window again. The same uneasy feeling returned. Stronger this time like eyes were on her.watching her.
Quiet Tension
The days after the fire passed slowly, but not peacefully. There was a strange stillness in the house-like something unseen was sitting quietly in the corner, waiting, watching. Theresa tried to keep things normal. She woke up early, prepared breakfast, spoke gently to the children, and checked in on harden's recovery. On the outside, everything looked stable, but inside nothing felt right. Grace had stopped sleeping alone. Every night she crept into Theresa's room, curling up beside her without a word. She didnt talk about the nightmares anymore, but they hadn't stopped. Ethan had gine the opposite direction. He barely spoke. He spent most of his time in his room, door closed , lights dim. At first, Theresa thought he was just processing everything-but one night ,she passed his door and noticed something. The faint glow of a screen fast moving images. He wasn't just sitting there, he was working. Harden noticed it to. "he's not a kid anymore," Harden said quietly one evening. Theresa sighed."he had to grow up so fast". Harden didnt respond immediately. neither did she. But they both knew some of that was his fault.
Later that night, ethan replayed the Warehouse footage again. He zoomed in on to the shadow he had seen earlier. Frame by frame, closer and clearer, then he froze. The figure.. it wasn't random it was controlled. deliberate walking out the fire like it didn't matter.Ethan leaned back slowly. His chest tightened."he's alive."
