The Wolf Who Stands Alone

451 Words
The forest no longer felt like a place she merely walked through. It felt like it breathed with her. Every step Lyra took sent faint ripples through the air — not visible, but felt. Animals quieted. Leaves seemed to listen. The wind curled around her like it knew her name. She didn’t look back at the pack. Not because she was cruel. Not because she didn’t care. But because she finally understood something: The bond between souls is different from the bond chosen by wolves. Her wolf walked beside her now — not a whisper, not a shadow — but a full presence in her mind. “We were never meant to be held small.” Lyra exhaled softly, her fingers brushing the Eclipse Mark glowing faintly through her skin. She felt stronger. Not invincible — just whole. For once, that was enough. --- Back in the Pack — Aiden The silence after she left was suffocating. Aiden stood where she had been moments before, staring at the earth like it could give him answers. His wolf was pacing inside him — frantic, restless, hurting. Not angry. Not dominant. Just aching. “We did this.” Aiden's chest tightened. He had rejected her to protect her. Because his pack believed Luna must be fierce, powerful, and flawless. And he thought she was too breakable. But the prophecy had revealed something cruel and simple: She was always stronger than him. His breath came uneven. Not because of loss. But because of realization. The Council Moves Inside the stone hall, Elder Marcellus watched Aiden from a distance. His gaze was unreadable. “The bond has rebelled,” he murmured to another elder. “Luna’s power rises without the Alpha.” The other Elder swallowed, troubled. “What happens now?” Marcellus closed the ancient book slowly. When Luna stands alone, the world shifts to her feet.” “And the Alpha must decide…” “…to kneel, or to fight fate.” Lyra’s Journey The moon rose early that night. A silver light spilled across the lake where Lyra paused to rest. Her reflection stared back at her — stronger, sharper, but still undeniably her. She sat at the water’s edge, knees drawn to her chest. No tears. No anger. Just quiet. She whispered into the wind: “I did love him.” The water rippled — no answer returned. She didn’t expect one. But the wind brushed her cheek — gentle — like reassurance. You loved true. That is not weakness. Lyra closed her eyes. Tomorrow, everything would change again. She could feel it. The world was shifting. Fate was realigning. Packs would move. And Aiden… He would have to choose.
