The rain that railed against the window fit the bereavement of my soul. Watching the rain trickle down the sides of the glass against the city skyline, I tried hard to concentrate on my breathing. We had been so close to getting them back, just to have them ripped from our fingers once more. Breath in, breath out. Were they safe? Were they scared? Breath in, breath out. Was Maverick crying for me to come sleep in his bed? Was August angry that I hadn’t found him yet? Breath in, breath out. I needed to move from this spot, but my body wouldn’t budge.
