Jasmine held my hand as we ran to Daddy’s office. Jasmine is scared, but I’m not. I want to surprise Daddy, but I need something from his office.
“Jana, Daddy will be mad with us.”
“No, he won’t.” I shake my head, pull Jasmine into the office, and close the door. “Daddy would never hurt us, Jasmine. Daddy loves us.”
“Yes,” My new sister nods and smiles. “Daddy loves us.”
“We are his moon and stars.”
Jasmine nods. “Like Mommy and Papa.”
“That’s right. Now, wait there. I will look for Daddy’s phone book.”
I know where Daddy keeps his book; I have seen him look through it before. The top drawer is locked, but that doesn’t matter to me. I can open it without a key. I hold my hand over the lock, and it clicks. I open the drawer and find Daddy’s black phone book on top of some paper
