Chapter 5

1459 Words
Regor sat on his throne in the Alpha Mouhiere Empire, deep in thought. He was at the heart of his organization—the so-called "King of All Kings" of a group with years of experience in illegal activities. Their operations included drug trafficking and the trafficking of women and children, with many other illicit businesses under their control. He thought back to the day he was betrayed by his most trusted associate—none other than Amore. He seethed with anger that she had helped his half-brother Liam, whom he wanted dead to seize their parents’ entire inheritance. Regor had grown up cruel and greedy, just like his real father, who had been a drug lord before his death. "All right—chase them! Don’t stop looking for the two of them. Bring Amore alive, but kill Liam if you can. Is that clear?" "Goddamnit! Why did you do this to me, Amore? You’ll pay for this—I’ll find you no matter where you hide, even in the deepest corner of hell! I thought you were the only one I could trust. I was wrong—why?" Regor roared in fury. He threw everything within reach, his rage uncontrollable. His eyes blazed like fire, and his face flushed red with anger. "Excuse me, sir—we found something related to Amore. This is her cellphone, which we recovered from her house. There are no traceable numbers in the contacts, and the device has no SIM card or memory card," his staff reported. "Dammit! How is that possible? Find everyone who might know something—especially her doctor friend. He’s the only one left. Locate him and bring him here immediately. Clear?" "Yes, sir! I’ll notify you the moment we find him. I’ll get started right away." "Scarlett—prove your loyalty to me. I won’t tolerate traitors by my side, and I won’t hesitate to kill you if you turn against me. Don’t follow Amore’s example!" "Yes, sir." Scarlett left at once. She had once been Amore’s right hand and remained loyal to her former leader—but now she was caught between her loyalty and her job, which was the only way she could support her mother. As soon as she got in her car, she pulled out her phone and made a call. "Hello… yes, gather everyone at the hideout immediately. I have important news to share. I’m on my way now." Scarlett drove quickly to her house, changed clothes, and rode her black motorcycle—the vehicle she used for covert movements. In the Alpha Mouhiere Empire, she dressed formally and maintained a professional demeanor, but here she could be herself. Thirty minutes later, she arrived at the hideout, wearing a mask to conceal her identity. Her colleagues were already there, and none of them revealed their true faces to one another. OMARE CORPS HIDEOUT The Omare Corps was an organization of women trained in combat, martial arts, and self-defense. Their mission was to protect and defend oppressed and abused women—true girl power in action. Scarlett entered, and all her companions bowed in respect. She was their second-in-command, serving under Sapphire, the leader. Within the corps, she went by the name Jasmine. "Everyone, please sit. I’m here to announce a new mission: we need to protect Dr. Dindo Ruiz. His life is in danger—bring him here if you can, as he’s no longer safe anywhere. Assign ten women as his bodyguards—I know you’ll do well. You are also ordered to monitor Regor Marcial’s movements. I’m sure you all know who he is." "Why is Regor Marcial targeting Dindo Ruiz? Did he do something to provoke him?" one of her colleagues asked. "It’s not his fault—Regor simply wants to get to him for his own purposes. No more questions—just follow my orders." "Yes, Jasmine—we’ll do everything we can." "Excellent. Sapphire won’t be back for a while, so we’ll handle all missions in her absence. You may leave now—be careful out there." "Thank you, Jasmine." The ten women moved out immediately. Scarlett provided them with Dindo’s photo and address, emphasizing the need to act fast. She outlined two plans: Plan A was to warn him, and Plan B was to bring him to the hideout if he refused to believe he was in danger. After leaving the hideout, Scarlett went to one of her safe houses—she maintained several properties, including some shared with Sapphire. She changed her clothes again and rode her blue motorcycle back to the Alpha Mouhiere Empire. "How’s the task I gave you, Scarlett? Have you started?" "Huh? Sir Regor—how did you get into my house?" she gasped, shocked to see him standing in front of her. He laughed coldly. "Of course I can—there are many ways to get what I want. I came to check on your progress with capturing Dindo Ruiz. Make sure you’re on my side—if I find out you’re still loyal to Amore, I’ll kill you without hesitation. You have one week to bring him before me," he said, gripping her face tightly. "Yes, sir—I won’t betray you. You can count on me to deliver him." "You’d better. If not, you know what will happen to you. I’ll be leaving now, Scarlett." With that, he issued his final threat and left. "Argh! You’re so annoying, Regor! You can’t fool me—your promises mean nothing. I’ll never side with you, even if you kill me. You’ve done nothing but evil—when will you be gone? I don’t care about you—suffer!" Scarlett’s hands curled into fists as she fumed. She picked up Amore’s old cellphone and turned it on. The only thing saved on it was a photo of the two of them—even the memory card held no other evidence. She took out her own phone and sent a text to Amore’s old number, hoping she had kept the SIM card. Looking at the phone, she sighed and tears streamed down her face. Amore had been her only true friend her whole life and had given her everything she had today. "I hope you get this, Amore. I miss you, friend. I’ll be your eyes and ears against Regor—he’ll pay for what he did to you and all the innocent people he’s killed in cold blood." She wiped away her tears and picked up another phone to call her mother, who lived on Sulo Island. Scarlett had sent her there for safety—her mother was originally from the island and had returned there after Scarlett’s father died. Scarlett had moved to Manila for work, where she had met her father years earlier. "Hello, Ma—how are you doing there?" "I’m good, sweetheart—perfectly fine. I went to the hospital for my check-up like I’m supposed to. I love you so much, Scarlett—thank you for everything. I’m so lucky to have you as my daughter. When will you come visit me in Sulo? I miss you!" "Ma, I’ll try to come soon, but work is really busy right now—I have so much to take care of. Thank you for being such an amazing mother. Dad would be so proud of us if he were here. I’ll call again tomorrow—please take care of yourself. Bye." "All right, dear—you be careful too. Goodbye." She hung up, feeling a little lighter after hearing her mother’s voice. Her job was dangerous, so keeping her mother far away was the only way to protect the most important person in her life. Just then, her phone rang—it was her comrades from the Omare Corps. "Hello? What is it? Did you warn Dr. Dindo Ruiz?" "We had to use Plan B—he wouldn’t believe he was in danger from Regor. He’s asleep now, but he’s safe, and we’re taking good care of him, Jasmine. Don’t worry." "Good work—you got to him before Regor could. I’ll be there tomorrow. See you then." She set down the phone and headed to her room, exhausted from the day’s work. She lay on her bed but couldn’t sleep, her mind racing to find a good excuse in case Regor confronted her again the next day. "Argh! This is so frustrating—why am I stuck in this mess? Amore, please come back—I need you. Grrr… annoying, annoying!!! I wish I could get rid of Regor right now!" She talked to herself, feeling overwhelmed. She had to think carefully to stay safe—if Regor discovered she was betraying him, he would show no mercy.
