CHAPTER 7: HOW I BECAME A TOMATO

2162 Words
He might have overused the word for the past few days but Oliver can't feel anything but confusion. Ever since Saber walked or more like prance in Oliver's life everything just doesn't make sense anymore. His mind is racing like an F1 car. He can't even catch up to anything that is happening around him. It is like everything around him is a blur and he was left standing in the corner. Now, he can't seem to grasp the meaning of things. And what added more to his confusion is the confession of Saber. That one shook Oliver's world more than what happened in the bathroom the first day he met Saber. Oliver's emotion is a jumbled mess. He wants to break down and cry so that some of the emotions building up inside him can disperse. He needs an outlet but he doesn't know how to expel all of them. He took a raggedy breath and sighed. 'How did my life became this complicated?' Oliver asked himself. Looking up, Oliver can see the peaceful look on Saber's face. It was almost angelic to look at. He saw Saber's face when he was sleeping after he collapsed, he thought that that was serene enough. But seeing the boy's face now the little bit of stress left on his face before was long gone. It is like Saber's sleeping on top of the clouds without any worries. Oliver doesn't want to assume anything but there is that thought in his mind that keeps on poking him. It is because of him being right beside Saber that the boy is sleeping soundlessly and peacefully. Just when Oliver was sure that Saber is in deep sleep, he tried to get away from the boy's grip. But every time that he feels like he is getting away Saber's arm just pulls him back to the boy's chest. After a couple of tries, he gave up. It was useless anyway. He settles himself against Saber's body and closed his eyes. 'Might as well sleep for a couple of minutes, since I am stuck here.' Oliver thought. Since Oliver's head is near Saber's chest he can faintly hear the rhythmically beat of Saber's heart. It was faint but strong. Oliver can't help it when his eyes begin to close on their own accord. The beat of Saber's heart became Oliver's lullaby on that sunny afternoon. And in a matter of seconds, he was lights out. **** Oliver woke up feeling refreshed without knowing why. Usually, he will be in a groggy state with no intention of getting out of bed. However, as soon as he woke up he felt like he could run a marathon and that won't still be enough. He thought that maybe he did get a really good night's sleep. It felt like he was sleeping for days, the way he'd body felt. Trying to stretch his arms but failed, he opened his eyes slowly to see what is restraining him. "Morning Oli." Saber's voice is husky when he greeted him. Oliver's head is on top of Saber's one arm while his other arm is propped up to hold Saber's head while looking down at him. "Wha-?" Oliver sat up abruptly and looks around. The room was lit up by sunshine seeping through the window. He groaned when realization dawned in his mind, it is already morning. How can he sleep that long? "Yeah, you slept all afternoon and night. My dad already gave me something to eat but we didn't wake you up 'cause you looked so comfortable sleeping." Saber explained. "Oh god, my mom is going to kill me." Oliver freaked out. "I'm sorry, but I answered your phone last night. It was ringing repeatedly and it may be an emergency so I looked it over and I saw on the screen that it said mom, so I answered it." Oliver listened to Saber's explanation. "She was freaking out and I told her that you fell asleep. I also told her that you were exhausted from helping my father taking care of me because I was sick. And she said that it's okay. She was even gushing on how sweet you are for helping my dad." Oliver blushed at what his mom said but sighed in relief. Thank god Saber explained it to her or he will be dead later. "Thanks. I'll be going home now." The other boy nodded and led the way to the front door. "I'll see you at school, Oliver." The look on Saber's face was readable by Oliver. It looked like the boy wanted to do something to Oliver before they part ways but was restraining himself. They stood at the doorway awkwardly. They both won't meet each other's eyes. Oliver broke the awkward spell by saying goodbye and walked home leaving Saber following his retreating figure with his eyes. **** It was a relief that all he got from his mother that morning was a 'text me when you are not going home' lecture. But it was a little embarrassing when his mom started gushing at how a lovely boy was Saber for answering Oliver's phone and telling him where he was. And it got worse when she started having that 'I am so proud at my son' talk, saying that she was the reason that I was a good little boy and the likes for helping others. My dad almost countered my mom about the reason why I grew up good and helpful but he just got a heated glare from my mom. He was a wise man because he just closed his mouth and nodded his agreement at his wife. My parents are one weird combination but I love them so much so I won't trade them for anything. Arriving at school, Oliver was a little glad that he didn't see any sign of Saber in the hallways. He needed a little breather before he can see the boy again in their first class. He went straight to his locker and got all the books he needed for his morning classes then proceed to Yana's locker. "Good morning Ms. Applebum, what a nice morning we're having today but it is not as nice as you are," Oliver said with his fake British accent. "Oh Mr. Reynolds, your words flatter me. A nice morning to you too." Yana copied his accent before giving him a warm hug full of giggles. "That was weird." "It is." Oliver agreed and walked with Yana until the end of the hallway before separating to their respective classes. Oliver stopped at the door of his History classroom. He took a couple of deep breaths. Facing Saber after what happened yesterday and what was said was nerve-wracking for him. It is not an everyday occurrence for him to be confessed by a boy then sleep together (literally) and had an awkward morning. When he felt that he had a grasp of everything he reached out for the doorknob but was beat to it by another hand. Before he could turn he heard his voice near his ear and he was not gonna lie to himself he felt a shiver run down his spine. "Good morning, Oli." Saber greeted him before opening the door. Oliver was rooted in his spot. He can see Saber in front of him looking at him with a small smile playing on his lips. He shook his head a little and stepped inside the classroom. He made a beeline to his seat but he knows that he won't escape Saber for long because much to his dismay the boy is his seatmate. For the whole class, he can feel the stare of Saber at the side of his face but he kept his gaze at the teacher in front even though it was boring as hell. Once the class ended he dashed outside the classroom. Oliver sensed a feeling of déjàvu as this is what he did on the first day of Saber but instead of heading towards the bathroom, he runs towards his second class. He doesn't want another repeat of what happened before. The back of his mind is mocking him that he is running away from his problem but he just blocked it off. **** Oliver is blushing so hard that he feels that his face will combust anytime now. He is so embarrassed about what is happening but the more he makes it stop the more it gets worse so he just opts to keep his face down. He was shocked when he saw Saber outside his fourth-period class. The boy is smiling and waving at him. Many girls from his class giggled at waved back at him assuming that they are the reason why the hot new student is outside but Oliver knew better. Saber is waiting for him. It may sound cocky but after what was said and done yesterday he was so sure that he is the reason why Saber was here. To top it all Saber was looking directly at Oliver's eyes like he was the only person in the room. That thought made Oliver blush. 'I am acting way too gay for my liking. Damn, that boy for making me questions my entire life' Oliver rants in his mind. While the girls in his class swarmed Saber at the door, Oliver discreetly crept towards the teacher's door to escape. Well, he thought he was doing it discreetly until he felt someone holding onto his arm. "Where do you think you're going, Oli?" Saber asked him. The whole room feels silent. Everyone - or more like every girl - is looking in their direction with confusion and curiosity. 'This is the end of my life' He mused. 'I'll be eaten alive by these girls by the end of the day.' "To lunch?" Oliver answered Saber but it came out more of a question. Saber just smirked at his blushing form. "I just want to ask you something." "W-what?" He cursed himself for stuttering but he can't help it. Saber is looking at him like he can see his soul and the girls are waiting to kill him for hogging their prince's attention. Oliver can't help but be amused when Saber rubbed his free hand on the back of his neck. He can see that the other boy is nervous. He can't help the small smile that escaped his lips. "Will you go on a date with me?" Saber asked. He can see the redness of Saber's ears, the boy is blushing. "Uhm..." that is the only sound that came out of Oliver's mouth. He was so stunned at what happened. Not as stunned as Saber's confession but still doing it in front of his classmates this is way embarrassing. Then he felt the hold of Saber on his arm loosened. He snatched it away and mumbled a quick 'gotta go' and run away from the scene of the crime. 'Run faster feet. Run.' He chants as he makes his way towards the cafeteria. He sighed in relief when he saw the double doors of the cafeteria. He was almost there but as he stepped inside Saber blocked his way. 'Damn, this guy is fast.' Then he felt a blush coming again when he glanced around. 'Oh man, why did I run in here? There will be more audience than before.' "Don't run away, please." Oliver can't help but feel guilty at the sound of Saber's voice pleading with him. Oliver just nodded his head slowly. Saber smiled at me. "So, about my question before." He felt his knees turning jelly when he saw Saber smiled at him. It was a very cute smile. Then he began to panic again when what Saber said settled in his mind. The other boy must've sensed his hesitance and began to speak again. "Please, please, please go on a date with me. I'll even kneel to show you how sincere I am and how sorry I was from before." Oliver's eyes widen at what Saber declared. It will be the talk of the school if he let Saber do that - well it was a talk of the school now seeing what is Saber is doing but it will be humongous than this. He saw that Saber is slowly getting down on his knees. Before he even made it Oliver hoists Saber up. "Don't do that." Oliver pleaded. "So will you accept?" Saber smiled shyly at Oliver. He felt trapped but he can feel butterflies in his stomach. It is the first time someone asks him on a date and it was a guy for heaven's sake. In the end, he just sighed and let out a 'fine' and before he knew it Saber kissed his cheeks before bolting out of the cafeteria shouting 'Yes', leaving Oliver blushing under the stare of the whole student body. 'This will be a long day' Oliver sighed.
