Jess stared at Lily’s message on her phone, her chest heavy with hurt. She couldn’t come up with a reply, not when every word would be a lie and a cry for help just a few days after her departure. Her hands trembled as she put the phone down. A deep, aching sub formed in her chest, spilling over as she sank into the king-sized bed. The tears rushing out of her eyes were relentless, ruining her face as she held on to the fabric of her soft blanket. How had everything changed so quickly?
