CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

1148 Words

Maya's POV Luca called me twenty minutes after I got home. "My father went to see Father Antonio this morning," he said. "The priest who helped me leave. Vittorio knows he was involved." I sat down. "Is he in danger?" "Antonio is seventy-three and lives in a rectory in Queens. My father won't touch him directly. But he'll use him." He paused. "Antonio is the only person who knows the full timeline of the night I left. Every detail. If my father gets that information from Isabella's lawyers, it complicates my testimony significantly." "How?" "Because Antonio can account for decisions I made that night that don't look good out of context. I left without warning. I made arrangements in advance. On paper, it can be framed as calculated abandonment rather than a man running for his life."
