As nightfall descended, we dressed and headed to Amber’s house for Mer’s first shift. After our third round, Liam and I had marked each other, finally sealing our mate bond, making everything official. Even now, I could feel the new bite mark on my neck tingling, a constant reminder of what we now shared.
“Are you nervous?” Liam asked, his voice soft as we walked side by side.
I let out a bitter laugh. “About coming out to my entire family and friends, or the possibility that one of my best friends could die tonight? Yeah, a huge yes to both.”
Liam stopped walking and pulled me into an embrace, his arms wrapping around me like he was trying to shield me from everything. “Everything will be alright,” he murmured. “You’ll see.”
