9 Ayame led me around the great house and to the rear where Lord Mori’s study stood. She rapped on the wood of the door frame. “Lord Mori?” The door swung open and Mori stood before us with a quizzical expression on his face. His eyes fell on me and lit up, and a smile slipped onto his lips. I didn’t need three guesses to know what he hoped. He stepped back and swept his arm over the room. “My Lady, Jane, please come inside.” “We are eager to speak to you about the marriage proposal,” Ayame revealed as we both stepped inside. “And I am eager to here what you have to say,” he returned as he took a seat on his cushion and we knelt on ours. Ayame gestured to me. “Jane and I have been speaking, and I now believe that there is hope of salvaging the proposal.” Mori clapped his hands
