Chapter Six Zamir practically dragged Tahlia inside the manse. A servant scurried ahead of them, scattering a carpet of flower petals in their path for the traditional walk to the bedchamber. The rest of the servants ignored the scene and went about their business. I guessed it wasn’t the first time they had seen Zamir treat a woman in such a fashion, and Tahlia was his wife. With darkness falling and the guests dispersed, I finally had some measure of freedom. I slipped from the hedge that had hidden me and worked my way toward the manse, using shrubs and stone garden decorations to shield me from the working servants.
