The horizontal line which is the X-axis consists of letters a to h." He moved my hand, sweeping it towards the right, and then we stopped at the southeast of the board. "Then the vertical line which we call the Y-axis consists of numbers from one to eight," he said, prolonging his words as he ran my hand towards the northeast part of the board.
