CHAPTER 2
The manager was seen talking to the unknown man in the jeep.
Senator Dan immediately recognized Victoria at the sight of her as Mr Michael's wife.
“Oh! What have I done?”
That is Victoria no doubt”
“What is she doing here”
“ I guess those are her children!” Senator Dan battles in his mind.
Ever since the death of Mr Michael, Senator Dan had not been able to pay the family a condolence visit. Mr Dan was said to be out of the country when he got a call that Mr Michael,a mechanical engineer in one of his companies, died in a fatal accident.
Also, he had met with Victoria twice in his husband's office, so he will definitely identify her, even in the dark.
“I didn't even know they had a grown up daughter already” he thought while straining his neck to have a clearer view of the family.
“I have to do something as soon as possible”, he then grabs his phone to make a call…
While the jeep was driving out,the whole family was still drooling over who was in the jeep when the manager came back to them.
“So have you decided who is working?”
They all come to agreement that Elena should take the job, Elena got the job and resumed immediately. The family cannot contain their excitement.
The sun has risen, Elena is seen in the kitchen doing the dishes and also trying to fix something up for the family when her mother joins her.
“Good morning Sweetie” Victoria said to her
“Good morning mother” Elena replied blushing.
While they were chatting, Victoria caught a glimpse of a paper around the corner of the kitchen counter. It was a letter, addressed to her. Victoria's heart skipped a beat as she picked it up, her eyes scanning the contents.
It was from a lawyer's office, informing Victoria that she had been left a large sum of money by a distant friend. Victoria's eyes widened as she read the amount. It was enough to pay off their debts and secure their future.
But as she looked up at her daughter,Elena saw a mixture of emotions on her face. There was relief but also a hint of fear.
“What's wrong mom?” Elena asked, her voice barely a whisper.
Victoria took a deep breath before answering. “The friend who left us the money…it's someone I've been trying to avoid for years.”
Elena's eyes narrowed,”who is he?”
Victoria hesitated before answering, “It's Senator Dan, a wealthy and influential man who has a reputation for getting what he wants, no matter the cost”.
Elena felt a chill run down her spine. She had heard of Senator Dan but she had never met him, there was something about him that didn't feel right.
As they stood there, staring at the letter, Elena couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead. Would they be able to accept the money and secure their future, or would they have to face the consequences of Senator Dan's generosity?
Victoria also thought that there must be something wrong with them. They have been praying for a miracle,now a miracle has arrived but with a price!
Madam Victoria cannot even imagine what the huge price would be!
“What have we done to God?”
“Why has nature chosen to be cruel and unfair to them?”
“Why is help coming from Senator Dan,of all the people in the world?”
“What have we done?What have we done to deserve this?”
The whole family couldn't sleep all through the night because of the latest news the family got. Victoria thought of the kind of person Senator Dan was, how cruel and selfish he could be.
And as they walked into their uncertain future, they couldn't shake off the feeling that their lives were about to change in ways they never could have imagined
The family thought of refusing the money but at the same time,they thought of what would happen if they refused the money!
Elena couldn't sleep over the night because of the situation at hand, as well as the other family members. Elena had been deeply in thought all through the night of a way out of this but seems to not come to a conclusion.
“What will happen if we refuse this money?”
“What will Senator Dan do to l and my family if we didn't grant his wishes?
“What was his plan?”
“What was his request gonna be?”
These are the thoughts that were running on Elena's mind.
This is really heartbreaking!
Madam Victoria got to the lawyer's office and the lawyer handed her the brown envelope. Madam Victoria opened the envelope and was shocked at what she saw
“$2.5 million for us?” Victoria exclaimed with her eyes widely open.
“Yea, the money is for your family and please make sure to see Senator Dan as soon as possible. It's important!” Lawyer Titus added bluntly
“I already know!” Madam Victoria answered almost like a whisper.
“C’mon! It's not as if he's gonna ask for your life. You shouldn't be like that!” Lawyer Titus added
Madam Victoria vacate lawyer Titus office and headed home.
Mrs Victoria got home to share the news with the children. Elena also arrived in time as the whole family sat down to discuss the latest situation. They all concluded that their mother should go and hear the Senator out.
Since Elena will be on off duty the next day, she volunteered to go with their mother.
The whole family thought of going out shopping since it's been a long time since they went shopping. The last time they went shopping was before their father's death.
They have to shop for new clothes since they will be visiting the Billionaire's mansion tomorrow, they cannot just appear looking tattered.
Now that they have more than enough, they can actually afford anything without the fear of money.
Money is good though!
