CHAPTER 4

The mother and daughter didn't talk to each other till they were out of the mansion.

Elena and her mother finally got home, sat down and narrated all that had happened in Senator Dan's house to the family who had been expecting them

“I knew it!”

“I know it's going to be about Elena, my mind keeps telling me that and that was what I have been discussing with George and Harry before you guys came in” Jordan, the first child said with anger.

George and Harry were the third and fourth children of Madam Victoria. They are 14 and 15 respectively.

“ Right now, I just feel like getting hold of that old cargo myself and strangling him to death,” Jordan gritted.

Elena went ahead to open the envelope and was surprised to find a

huge amounts of money.

“Again?” Jordan exclaimed

“We are not taking this. As a matter of fact, we are going to return this money first thing tomorrow morning” he roared…

Elena's family doesn't know the way forward. They are stuck. They thought of returning the money,but then what would be the outcome?

Would they be able to face the consequences?

They wouldn't want to see the wrath of the Billionaire Senator.

The family were awake and were seated round a table staring at the blank space in silence. They are contemplating on what to do next, it's obvious they all didn't have a good night's rest with their swollen eyes.

“What are we supposed to do?” Victoria lamented.

The envelope with the money was lying on the table.

“I thought you said we are returning this money today” Elena said to Jordan.

“I said that?Did we not agree to return the money today?” asked Jordan

“Nope! You were the one who asked to return the money! Elena emphasizes.

“Are you guys going to stop arguing and let's think of a way out!” Victoria scolded.

“Mother! I think we should take this money, ask for more money from the Senator,which we all know we will get. We will just ask him to give us more time to think about the issue. We will look for a far remote area in the countryside and move in there. Then we will be free from this man” George suggested.

“Hmmm!! You are probably suggesting that simply because you don't know who Senator Dan is. He has his network and power far and wide. Maybe you don't know that as it is now, he has his eye on this family.”

“I mean someone somewhere is spying on us in case we want to try something silly just like the one George suggested now. Senator Dan has his informants everywhere. I am talking from experience. Whenever he wants to go for something, he uses all he has in power to secure that thing so that it won't slip away from him. That actually reminds me of his 5th wife. She was also a young lady of about 20 years then.

Because the family insisted on not giving their child to him as wife, he threatened to get her by all means. Could you guys believe that Senator Dan went as far as installing CCTV cameras in their house secretly without anyone knowing. Only God knows how he is able to achieve that, he did that to be able to monitor the family's move. Who knows if there are hidden cameras here too,”Victoria said looking around the

room.

“Do you all know the newsflash? We're going nowhere!”

“I am very sure that he is aware of our discussion this morning, so if we want to talk about the way out, it shouldn't be running away please” Victoria added bluntly.

Again, there was absolute silence in the room, as they didn't even know the way out and what to say. The family has tasted wealth again, and they do not want to go back to being poor. They have tasted hunger but they do not want to go back there.

Elena got up and rushed to the bathroom to take her bath and get herself ready for work. She's almost running late and she doesn't want to have bad records at work.

While bathing, Elena thought of her boyfriend Tony. She thought of discussing the whole issue with him. She doesn't want him to be left behind. “ Yea! I need to let him know!” She thought.

Truth be told, Elena doesn't even understand why her family was dragging this matter this way. To her, they are taking this issue too far.

“What's the big deal there? Just to be the Senator's wife? I am even glad. The fact that I won't have to stress myself to go to work for a peanut is no longer there. Senator Dan would definitely provide for all my needs and even my family in abundance. We won't have to go hungry again.”

“Saying yes to Senator Dan means a lot to me; more money in my account. Oh my goodness! He even said I am gonna have my own mansion, several cars in my compound, availability of a job if I want one, and peace of mind. More importantly, I'm gonna become a big girl in town, I'm gonna go shopping anytime, wear the latest clothes, shoes and bags. Also have the latest phone, what more could I get in a man.”

“Senator Dan might be older than I am, but he is good looking. His body is so fresh that you will think of washing your hands over and over again before touching him. And to think of the way he smells, oh my goodness! It is out of this world.”

“Yes! He even promised that am gonna be his last wife, isn't that interesting?” she grinned.
