Immediately, the thought of Tony came to her mind. Elena thought about what they had done together, she thought about all they had been through together. “I cannot leave Tony now, not this time!” She thought to herself.
“Tony had been with me through thick and thin, especially when dad was still alive. Now that I lost my dad, Tony can go the extra mile for me, he would rather go hungry for me to be satisfied.But how long are we gonna stay like this? Tony cannot even afford a proper meal for himself. Tony would have to go out everyday in search of menial jobs in order to put food on his table.”
“With Tony, a brighter future isn't certain. Someone that is finding it difficult to feed himself cannot feed other people”. Elena thought.
Elena placed a call to Tony and asked to see him.
Tony met Elena at work and then she explained to her all that had been happening right from when Senator Dan sent them a letter.
“Oh my goodness, what is this? What is going on? Tony bursted out, crying.
He wasn't even expecting this at all. He never thought that there will ever be anything that will separate him from her lover.
Tony had also been struggling from when he was a little child. He was raised by his grandmother when he lost his parents in an earthquake that happened in California years back, ever since, his life hasn't been the same.
The only person that is left with him and that is always making him happy is Elena, and now she's leaving him.
“My life is in a mess now” he roared as he is pacing up and down.
Tony asked Elena what she had in mind to do, he asked who she wanted to go with, but Elena couldn't say a thing.
Elena also cries with him, knowing fully well who she will go for. Tony asks Elena to promise never to leave him and she does.
Elena's family cannot afford to go back to square one,they cannot afford to be poor again, Elena thought this is their only hope and opportunity to live a wealthy life. She thought to convince her mother and siblings to let her go ahead and marry Senator Dan.
“Will mother agree to this?”
“Mother will be sad all through her life seeing me in that marriage”
“At least, she's gonna have her dream life”
“Maybe she's still gonna pursue her career, it's never too late though!”
Mother had always wished for a better life ever since the death of my father. Since the past six months she hadn't been herself, she had been the shadow of herself. She no longer cares about herself anymore, her career all gone. All she had been thinking about is how to raise her kids to become better persons in life.
“We need to talk about this and get to the root of this matter once and for all” Elena said, determined.
At Senator Dan's office, he was seen talking to someone on the phone, asking about the latest information. Senator Dan's priority now is Elena.
Everyday of his life, he keeps chasing after, gathering information and spying on the poor girl and her family.
Just the way he had been doing to his previous wives by invading their privacies, sending informants all around their family and all.
Senator Dan had not been himself ever since Elena and her mother left his mansion,it's been three days and because he hasn't heard from them. He is really worried and uncomfortable. He didn't even know whether to reach out to them or not.
He is trying as much as possible to maintain his cool but it looks as though the girl has bewitched him. He cannot even concentrate on his work.
For the past three days, he hasn't even said hello to his other wives. The ones that even called him were insulted. His body, mind and soul is with Elena now and no one is changing that .
“Go back there and resume your work, do not forget to update me if there's any latest information”Senator Dan ordered one of his men.
Elena still had to face another phase of life at work,because her boss would not stop disturbing her. He wanted her for himself alone. He had been doing everything he could in order to be favoured by her. Little did he know that Elena had a lot on her plate now.
Her manager will go as far as treating her to lunch, he will even give her allowances every weekend, cover her up at work whenever she is late or misbehave and all. He is just all over her.
Every other staff member suspected that the manager had a thing for her.
Elena got back home from work and asked her mother to talk. It was a mother and daughter talk.
“Mother! I have seen your suffering over us ever since our father's death. The way you struggle to put food on our table, the way you work your ass out for I and my siblings,the days you did double shifts just because of us, the days you go hungry in order to feed us” Elena said with tears in her eyes
I see your loneliness, I see your fear mother. And I know that your greatest fear is to see us suffer in life.
“Mom! I want us to grant Senator Dan's wish. I already made up my mind to get married to him in order to transition into a better life, mother. For how long are we gonna stay in this poverty. A kind of life where our wishes are not certain, a kind of life that we can eat today and go hungry tomorrow, a kind of life full of debts, a kind of life full of fear ... .Should I continue naming them mother? Elena narrated in tears.
Victoria is already shedding a pool of tears as her daughter is speaking to her, she couldn't even say a word. Her face is swollen and her eyes red.
Elena continued,”this isn't the kind of life I want for myself either. I didn't plan to get married to someone who is old enough to be my father, someone with five wives already and God knows children. I have visions and better plans ahead of me, but what can we do when fate chooses to be cruel to us…”Elena lamented
