If it's not far enough, Nadika thought, I'll have to burn it in place. A column of vultures was already circling above it in the noonday sun. She sighed and entered Beruga's Cave. * * * Showered and having eaten, her clothes clean again, Nadika exited the cave. The vulture-crusted carcass lay downslope, but she couldn't smell it from here. Her carts, tackle, and line securely inside the cave, she set off down the mountainside, circuiting the carcass, and headed northeast. Negomba Grove, she'd verified, was still in operation, its governor and his family having missed conclave and avoided the attack. It was the closest amusement park to her now, more than ten miles away, and across the River Parangi. He was waiting at the base of Sacred Mountain. “Did you get the carts to the top?”
