Chapter 15

759 Words
The days seemed to slip by quickly after that first night working in the main house. I'd decided that the best thing I could do was try to keep my distance from both Xander and Dorian. I didn't want to cause too many problems, and I certainly didn't want to cause any drama, and clearly me being summoned by Xander to talk to him was drama in the house, as the next night after that incident there were some whispers about me talking to Xander, and those that hadn't known about that had certainly known something had gone on because of Dorian escorting me back to the house. I had been at the house for a week, and I was beginning to find my feet. I also knew what was expected of me. I was now allowed to work on the upper floors, and I was now allowed to be left alone. I know to most people it sounded silly, but to me, this was brilliant as it meant I could begin to figure out a plan for what I'd do when the time came. I needed to know where everything was and how to move quickly around the house to get out when it came to that part of the plan. After all, there were only three weeks and six days left. I had to start moving now with the plan. I'd headed upstairs to go and find Sarah as I'd finished cleaning downstairs and we'd made plans together, and as I passed by Xander's room, I heard a noise coming from inside it. I stopped and frowned as my mind went over what rooms were being cleaned. Tonight it wasn't Xander's room; that had been done yesterday. I stood closer to the door and put my ear to it when I heard more noise. I couldn't help myself as I opened the door a c***k. No one was inside the room; however, the balcony door was open. I shook my head a little, thinking a noise had travelled from outside, so I turned away when the hairs on the back of my neck began to stand on end. Slowly, I turned around to face the balcony again when a figure was climbing onto the balcony. Not even thinking about it, I ran and grabbed a vase off a sideboard as the figure came running into the room, straight at me. I threw the vase without a thought, which startled the figure for a heartbeat, which I now realized was a male, but then he came straight at me and pinned me to the wall. "Where is he?" The male growled as he got in my face. This man was a vampire, but he wasn't one I recognized as being inside the house. I swore in my head over and over again at Lucian for the fact that he had my silver dagger. "I don't know," I muttered, hoping he'd understand I was nothing more than an innocent person in whatever was going on. I knew vampires didn't care about innocent people, but it was still worth a try. "LIAR!" He roared at me as he picked me up and threw me across the room, making me crash into Xander's desk. Everything on the desk fell on top of me, including an ornament that broke and cut my skin as my arms were bare tonight. "WHERE IS HE?" I tried to get up, but I was in pain as I'd gone shoulder and side first into Xander's desk, and the cuts on my skin were hurting from the cold air of the room and had begun to bleed. I'd pulled myself slightly up and scrambled backwards a little as I held my arm. "I don't know. I don't even think he's here; I'm just a maid." I tried to reason with him despite the fact that I knew he wouldn't be reasoned with. He was blinded by whatever he had to do. I knew, as I was often the same when I walked around the house, that I was focused on what I had to do, which was to make a plan to kill Xander. Well, then, maid, I think I'm going to enjoy a lovely feast tonight." The vampire lunged at me and pinned me down as he was perched on top of my chest with his hands around my throat as I'd begun to struggle to breathe. Well, crap, I certainly didn't expect to be in this situation about to be killed by some rogue vampire.
