"Were you being serious earlier?" He asked as excitement filled his eyes. I turned away for a moment and then looked back.
"Yes," I answered as I met his eyes. I wanted so badly to be excited about it as I had been earlier, but it had been hard with Helena putting the doubt in front of me. Xander seemed to frown a little as he came over to me. I couldn't help myself as I looked away a little, as I didn't want him to see the mark on my cheek.
"What's wrong?" Xander asked. "I mean, earlier... you seemed happy."
"Nothing." I decided to go with. "How did things go earlier with Marie?"
"That doesn't matter." Xander carefully lifted my head, so our gazes were locked on each other. He didn't seem to notice the mark; either he didn't notice it or he wasn't going to ask me about it right away.
