Chapter Four

855 Words
Beth had waited for the guests to be in the ballroom before heading down the stairs, she stood in the kitchenette with her mother-in-law. They were only a wall away so, they could hear almost everything happening. Beth wasn't entirely sure why she felt nervous, she paced a little as she took a deep breath. Jackie smiled a little “you don't have to be nervous,” “I know, I can't help it.” The music next door filled the silence, Jackie teased her “is it because of Kent.” Beth blushed a little making it obvious, she held her hands “its almost time.” Now Beth felt butterflies, she really wanted to see Kent’s reaction. Kent was standing near the bar talking to his dad, he could barely contain his excitement. He couldn't wait to see Beth all dressed up, he looked around the room at their family and friends. The music fell silent Robert took to introducing her, “Jackie and I are glad everyone is here to celebrate our son’s engagement.” Beth smiled “are you ready” she nodded “yes,” “I would like to introduce my daughter-in-law. Miss Beth Thompson” then the doors opened, she made her way inside with Jackie smiling by her side. She soon noticed the look on Kent’s face, it was pretty clear. He handed her a glass of wine “you're right I’m shocked,” she giggled a little “I’m happy I was right.” He leaned into whisper “you look so beautiful,” she blushed, as she was about to say something he kissed her. It was perfect. Jackie cleared her throat “remember you're not alone,” they both laughed a little. The music started up a few moments later, everyone came up to them to say “congratulations.” After that they settled at a table near the food, Jess was still a little lost for words. “You look absolutely amazing Beth,” she had a sip of wine “thank you.” Alex put it out there, “purple definitely suits you.” Beth agreed. The guests have all gone home so now the clean up begins, Beth was feeling so happy. She smiled at Kent who looked at her like she's his everything, a few moments pass before he grabs her hand and takes her upstairs. “I have the perfect gift for you” she lit up, “really” Kent led her to his room to present her with the ring. Beth was speechless “this is a family heirloom,” she looked at the beautiful six-carat ring. It has two sapphires amongst the diamonds, Kent placed the ring on her finger. Beth couldn't stop smiling “its absolutely perfect,” he smiled “it is isn't it.” After a couple of minutes she kissed him, Kent wrapped his arms around her. Nothing existed outside of this moment, nothing could be better than this. Its pretty clear what would happen if they continued, Kent sat on his bed Beth straddled him. They were definitely caught up in the moment, the night ended and it was filled with passion. The next morning Kent woke up first, he felt like yesterday didn't happen. That is until he looked to his left and found Beth sound asleep, he smiled like a fool. He was careful as he climbed out of bed, he didn't want to disturb her. After he got dressed he headed to the kitchen. His parents were having a quiet conversation as they ate, he simply grabbed a cup of coffee and joined them at the table. He was smiling without even trying, Jackie smiled a little “why are you so happy this morning.” Kent took his time as he was about to respond, his mother added; “could it have something to do with Beth and why she wasn't in the guest room.” He blushed a little “its possible,” Robert didn't waste a second “that's a good way to celebrate an engagement.” Jackie laughed a little, he looked at her “its how we celebrated ours.” She felt amused “it is but our son didn't need to know that,” Kent cleared his throat. “Exactly I was better off not knowing,” things fell quiet it wasn't long before Beth wandered in. She looked like she had a decent sleep, after she grabbed a cup of coffee she sat beside her fiance. She knew, of course, it didn't bother her. After she had some of her coffee, she felt like teasing a little. She leaned into whisper “I had a pretty good dream about you,” he tried not to look too happy. “Really” she nodded, she quietly added; “it was essentially a repeat of what we did.” He looked pretty proud of himself, Jackie loved how happy they are together. “Remember you two aren't alone.” They seemed to go back to normal, and slowly carried on with their day.
