Rubyrose
All eyes were on me.
I could feel the weight of the entire pack pressing down, waiting for my answer. My chest was tight, my palms sweaty. Heck, I could hear the sound of my pounding heart.
The Supreme Alpha's gaze
Those Hazel eyes.
Staring at me like it knew me… like it could see through what others couldn't.
The way my name rolled out from his lips.
I swallowed hard, my n*****s going shamelessly and insanely hard.
His gaze on mine was doing things — unimaginable things. Things I thought I could never feel again.
Who the hell was this man?
I tore my gaze from his and met Rosemary's glaring eyes. I could see the hate emanating from them.
The old Rubyrose would have been doomed— but not me.
My gaze met Rosemary's as my expression softened, looking confused. “Sister please, who's he? You know I can't remember some things. Who… who is the Supreme Alpha? Can you tell me what I need to know about him?”
Rosemary's eyes brightened at my question. She quickly grabbed my arm and pulled me a few steps aside. Her nails dug into my skin. The smile on her face didn’t match her eyes.
In as much as she tries hard to mask it, to appear brave, I could still see the fear in them.
I didn't know who this Kieran was, but for what he did to Rosemary today, he already scored a point in my heart.
I saw his expression change the moment I asked Rosemary that question, a flicker of worry in his eyes. He opened his mouth to say something but he held back.
I could see he didn't trust Rosemary. Heck, I didn't trust her either, but at this point, I think I needed her own point of view to make this decision.
“You can’t accept him,” she hissed, bringing her voice down.
“Why?” I asked, raising my brow.
Her grip on my arm tightened. “Ruby, you don’t know what you’re getting into,” she hissed, her voice low but urgent.
“Kieran Blackthorne is a monster. Do you hear me? He’s ruthless. He’s killed Alphas without blinking. Packs kneel to him out of fear, not respect or loyalty. He’s broken Alphas stronger than Max, torn them apart with his bare hands. His enemies don’t just die—they vanish. You can’t handle him. He’ll destroy you. If you bind yourself to him, you’ll die before you even know it.”
For a moment, my heart skipped. My gaze momentarily went to Kieran and he was staring right back at me, his expression unreadable. I had expected Rosemary not to say anything good about him just to push me to reject him.
But I didn't expect his world to be this… dark.
I blinked, trying to steady my racing heart. She wanted me to be afraid. And maybe I was. But something else settled inside of me — a slow realization.
Kieran Blackthorne… ruthless… feared by all…
It struck me that If he was truly that dangerous, then maybe—just maybe—he was exactly the weapon I needed to burn Max Sexton to the ground.
Rosemary leaned in closer, her voice poisonous as she whispered, “Reject him now, Rubyrose. Say it loud, let everyone hear you. Say you don’t want him and he will let you be!”
I looked straight into her desperate eyes. “Are you sure? You… you just said he's ruthless. W-will he—”
“Of course,” she hissed, cutting me off sharply, “he's going to let you go. He already said it before the entire pack.”
I allowed myself stare at her for a second longer. I saw the truth in her eyes—she wanted me to reject him, to hand her the chance to claim his power for herself.
I nodded my head slowly in agreement, letting her think she’d won. “You’re right,” I murmured, my voice soft and submissive. “I should reject the bond.” Her shoulders sagged with relief. She thought her manipulations still worked.
We turned back to the crowd, and the moment I opened my mouth, the entire hall went silent— everyone waiting to see what decision I had made. Even my mother's hands trembled as she clasped them in my father's. My voice rang out strong, surprising even me.
“I, Rubyrose…” I paused, lifting my chin toward the towering man at the center of it all, those piercing eyes held me captive, his dark curls falling over his masked face, his presence radiating raw power. The bond burned hotter, a wildfire in my veins, urging me toward him despite every warning screaming in my head. “…accept the mate bond. I accept you, Supreme Alpha Kieran, as my Mate.”
Sharp gasp rippled through the crowd. Rosemary’s face twisted in shock, her mouth falling open as if I had just cursed her.
Max’s face was a mask of rage and disbelief, his fists clenched uselessly at his sides.
Then all of a sudden, everything exploded.
The bond snapped into place with a force so strong it almost knocked me off my feet. Heat rushed through me, burning and soothing all at once. For the first time, I felt what it meant to be a werewolf. My wolf howled inside of me, breaking free from the chains I hadn’t even known were binding her and submitted to what was always meant to be.
My eyes glowed brighter, a soft light seeped from within me, pulling the Supreme Alpha closer.
Kieran’s eyes flashed molten gold as he stepped toward me, allowing the light guide him. My knees weakened, not from fear, but from the raw power rolling off him in waves. I couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think. I couldn't control what was happening to me either.
Everyone in the hall instinctively bowed their heads, unable to withstand the dominance that poured from him.
“Mine,” he growled, his voice rough and low, yet soft when his gaze fell on me.
And then his mouth crashed against mine.
It wasn’t a kiss—it was a claim. My body trembled as power surged through me, amplified by his. I could feel every barrier I’d built around my heart crumbling under the force of our connection.
Gasps echoed around us, but no one dared move— not as if they had a choice.
When he finally pulled away, his chest heaved, and his eyes burned with desire that made my pulse trip. His voice was ragged when he spoke against my lips.
“You have no idea what you do to me Ruby. If I don’t stop now, I’ll claim you fully… right here in front of all of them.”
A shiver ran through me. I could see the storm in his eyes as he struggled to hold himself back.
My wolf howled loudly in my head. She wanted him as much as he wanted us.
God, what am I feeling?
I'm beginning to think and act like them.
All I wanted was to use him as my revenge tool, not let him f**k me.
But with my breast pressed tightly against his broad chest, revenge wasn't what was in my mind. I wanted…
Oh damn, get yourself together girl.
He tore his gaze from mine with much difficulty and turned to the stunned pack. His voice boomed like thunder.
“The mating ceremony will take place on the next full moon.”
Before anyone could speak, before I could even process what had just happened, he spun on his heel and strode out of the hall. It was almost as though he was fleeing—from me, from the bond pulsing through our veins, from the fire of desire that had just sparked between us.
I stood frozen, my lips still tingling, my heart pounding, and one thought echoing over and over in my mind.
Is there any escape out of this?
Rosemary’s glare burned into me, but I didn’t care. Max’s defeated silence was a victory I hadn’t known I needed.
I realized that I’d just tied myself to the most dangerous man alive.
And somehow, that felt like the beginning of everything.
