What the f**k!
I opened my eyes slowly, clutching my head to stop the loud ringing.
After a few seconds, the ringing stopped and I looked around my surroundings to find out I was still at the hospital.
And the good thing is that I could move my body now but I still felt very weak.
I couldn't control the tears that rolled down my cheeks as I thought about the series of events that had happened to me without my knowledge.
How did my life come to this?
A soft click sounded at the door and I immediately brushed my fingers over my face, hurriedly wiping away the tears.
I noticed a doctor enter and shut the door quietly behind him. It wasn't the same doctor I had spoken to earlier when I had first woken up.
I immediately shut my eyes pretending to be fast asleep — I wasn't in the mood to answer any question.
But something pricked my nose causing my eyes to snap open immediately.
That perfume.
Why does it scent like—
My eyes immediately moved to see the masked doctor Injecting something into my IV bag. My eyes caught his wrist that was exposed and my gaze fell upon the familiar birthmark I had grown accustomed to for three years.
My heart stopped.
“Max?” my voice came out hoarse and unsure.
The man froze and then turned, light brown eyes stared back at me.
My breath caught in my throat.
Those eyes.
No.
He removed the face mask slowly, exposing the face of my husband. The man I once loved with every fiber of my being.
I gasped in horror, my gaze drifting to the empty syringe in his hand.
“M-Max… wh-what have you done?” My voice cracked, trembling violently.
“Oh babe you're awake,” Max said, flashing me one of those innocent smiles I had come to love. If I didn't know better, I would have fallen for it again.
But I knew better now.
My hands clenched into tight fists by my sides under the blanket.
“Max… are you now an organ trafficker?” I managed to ask through clenched teeth, fighting to keep my voice steady.
He tilted his head, pretending he didn't know what I was talking about, his fake softness making my stomach churn.“What do you mean my queen?”
My Queen?
Was he f*****g kidding me?!
I shut my eyes tightly, swallowing hard trying to control the rush of rage flowing within me.
“Fine Max,” I blurted out, my voice law and cold. “If you want to play dumb, let's have it your way,”
The bastard grinned and lowered himself softly onto my bed, then he reached out to tug my hair behind my ear. His touch that once triggered fierce passion within me, now repulsed me.
I quickly turned my head away, avoiding his hand.
His hand hung briefly in the air, I saw something flicker in his eyes, and as quickly as it appeared, it varnished, causing me to remember that look I had seen when I left the house with his car.
Could it…
Is it possible…?
Oh my God.
“Max, you tried to kill me?!” I screamed, my eyes wide in shock as realization drew in.
“You…you already removed my womb, a kidney and a part of my liver!” My voice shook uncontrollably, my words breaking between sobs. “And you still want to kill me? But why? What have I ever done to you?”
Tears welled up in my eyes. This was the man I loved, worshiped, flaunted around the world with so much pride.
“Why?” my voice was barely a whisper now.
“I'm so sorry babe, you weren't supposed to find out,” Max said, slowly wiping the tears that flowed down the corner of my face. I wanted to slap his hands away but for some reason, I found it difficult to move, my breathing was becoming difficult.
Max continued, “I just wanted you to die with the thought of how happy your life had been with me as your husband,” his fingers on my hair were so gentle, so soft. I shut my eyes tightly, the tears pouring freely in defeat. Anyone that saw him at this moment would think he's such a caring husband.
But this man was a murderer! A sweet f*****g devil!
“Why?” My voice broke. “Why would you do this to me?”
He leaned in closer, his eyes sharp and void of guilt. “Because, Amaris, I never loved you.”
The words stabbed deeper than any scalpel ever could.
“So… this three years together?”
“Oh it was all for your money babe,” he said simply, like it was nothing. “For the status. For the influence. I married you for your property.
You were easy to manipulate. So sweet,” his fingers slowly trailed my face, down to my breast. Bile rose in my throat as he cupped my breast and brushed his fingers on my n****e against the hospital dress I was putting on.
All the love I've ever felt for this man was now transformed into hatred.
If I survived this today, I'm definitely going to come for him.
“Take a look at you babe, even as you slowly wither away, you still look very much fuckable, damn. What do you say for a goodbye f**k—an orgasm straight to heaven?” he leaned closer, his face drawing nearer to my face.
I couldn't control myself as I spat on his face.
That seems to wipe the smirk off his face as his expression changed to one of fury. His gaze turned darker to nothing I’ve seen before. His hand moved to my neck, choking me.
“How dare a mere human spit on me?” His voice was nothing like the soft voice that I've gotten used to all these years. This was rough, dark and dangerous.
And just then it occured to me — I never truly knew this man.
My hands clawed weakly against his strong hands, tears welling up in my eyes as I struggled to breathe.
“Don’t waste your tears,” he said, straightening. “Once you’re gone, everything you've ever owned and possessed will rightfully become mine.”
Tears slid down my face uncontrollably as my chest heaved with shallow breaths. “Max… I gave you everything.”
He leaned closer, lowering his voice to a cruel whisper. “And I’ll take the rest, too. That injection I just gave you?” He checked his wrist watch. “It'll stop your heart any moment from now, making it seem like you died of a cardiac attack.”
I knew he had come to finish me off, but hearing him say it directly without emotions was more painful than I imagined.
My heart cracked into two. I let out a cold smile. “You want my money and properties right? You will never get them.”
I might have loved Max enough to will all my properties to him if he had just asked. But that can never happen now. Not without my signature on those hidden documents and I'm dying anyway.
I would be long dead before he would go get them and bring them here.
Max chuckled darkly and sinisterly causing dread to rise at the pit of my stomach. “Your property already belongs to me my little sweet wife,” he said, robbing my lips softly, “all that's left to claim it… is evidence of your death.”
My eyes widened in disbelief. “Wh-what are you talking about?”
“Aren't you talking about the documents you hid away in the safe, and the code known by you alone?”
I swallowed hard waiting for him to land.
He grinned. “Oh Amaris, all it took was just alcohol and good s*x and you handed everything to me,” it wasn't that hard at all.
I stared at him, not understanding what he meant, but instead his grin grew wider and then it struck me.
Few months back, Max had returned from one of his business trips where he said he just closed a huge deal. As usual he wanted us to celebrate his wins and he opened a bottle of strong wine, stronger than what I usually drink, but I couldn't refuse him, he was so happy and I was happy to see him that happy.
Thinking about it now, I think he intentionally got me drunk, because he kept feeding me more alcohol that night and then it led to s*x. At the peak of my orgasm he had brought out a document and said it needed by signature and that it was from my company. I had whined about him bringing it up at that moment but he had kissed me softly telling me it was urgent and he didn't want to forget it later. I had hurriedly signed without even going through it because I trusted him and I wanted him to grant me my release so badly. And besides, that wasn't the first time he was giving me a document to sign and none had been fishy.
I let out a cold mocking laugh. It's obvious he had been biding his time all these while.
“I take it that your memory is back to you,” he said smugly as he stood up.
The betrayal was too much. My body trembled, pain shooting through my chest. The machines around me beeped wildly, alarms ringing in my ears.
“Max…” My voice was a rasp, my tears warm on my cheeks. “I’ll… kill… you…”
He smirked, shaking his head. “And how will you do that babe?” he whispered cruelty. “You're already dead.”
Then he bent down and planted a kiss on my forehead, then whispered softly into my ears. “You should be grateful Amaris, I gave you the best f**k of your life for three years in exchange for your wealth.”
I struggled against him but he held me down.
“Shushhhh… don't fight it, let the drug do its job.”
The pain in my chest grew unbearable. My breaths became shorter, weaker. My body gave up before my mind did. My vision blurred, spots of darkness creeping in.
I wanted to scream. I wanted to fight. But all I could do was let the tears flow as the truth settled like the poison running in my veins.
My last thought before the darkness swallowed me was of vengeance.
This wasn’t the end.
Not for me.
All I just needed was another chance.
*******
I watched as the doctors and nurses rushed into my room and ran towards the bed, none seemed to even notice me. They were in a hurry to resuscitate someone. I peeped and saw my lifeless self on the bed.
I heard the monitor go flat. I saw the doctor's sad look as he shook his head. I heard him call the time of death to a nurse.
So I'm really dead.
My husband succeeded in killing me.
Just then a force moved me to a corner of the hospital premises and I saw Max locked in a heated kiss with a woman.
Hold on.
Isn't that Samantha his secretary?
Did Max actually murder me for her?
My hands flew to my mouth.
Oh God.
I wanted to hit him, hurt him. Both of them.
But I was now a ghost. My hands kept passing through them.
Just when I thought it was all over, I saw Lilian running towards us.
I was happy.
Let my best friend seek justice for me.
Let her see Max for who he truly was.
Lilian walked over to Max and gave him a resounding slap.
But my happiness was cut short so fast as I saw her tear up. “You're still f*****g her? Is that why you made her your Beta?”
Wait a minute. Did she say ‘still f*****g her?’ That means Lilian had been aware of Max's infidelity for a long time and never mentioned it to me.
I thought I had heard it all until I heard her next words.
“Last night when you were in-between my legs you promised to marry me once we returned back. I thought Amaris was the hindrance— she's gone but you're still f*****g this b***h after telling me it has all ended between the both of you!” Lilian screamed.
My mouth was opened. No words could come out. I couldn't comprehend what I was seeing or hearing.
Wasn't Lilian getting married?
Come to think of it, I've never seen her husband, just heard lots of sweet things about him.
Had I been helping her prepare for a wedding with my husband?
The cruel reality hits me harder than I could ever have thought.
Max curled Lilian into his arms. “Princess I'm sorry, don't be offended, it's Lycario's doing, I swear it.”
Princess? My chest burned. “Arrrghhhhhhh!!!!”
I let out an estranged sound from deep within, but no one could hear me.
Just then, the force came back again.
No.
Where's it taking me?
I don't want to go to the afterlife yet.
I just need a chance to teach these people a lesson!
I need to get back what they had stolen from me!
But the force was too strong, pulling me away.
Where are you taking me to?
Nooooo!!!!
