Chapter II – Reincarnations

A hospital bed and various wires and machines connected to a person's body were Eduardo's first sights after waking up from that shock. Friends and family were crying and lamenting nearby, saddened by the tragic story of another young promising individual who had suffered a terrible accident. Beside him was Eddie's bed, who also hit his head hard when his car veered off Fernão Dias Highway. Although not fatal, it apparently caused serious consequences in Eduardo's perception. At least his head was bandaged.
An oriental-looking man was looking at him when he decided to speak:
– Dude! You could have been a goner! Your roommate is in a COMA because of a head blow. Were you drinking and driving?
– Bro, what are you doing here? Some crazy drunk dude jumped in front of me, and I had to swerve, or I would have run over the guy. Where's Samantha? I was having this crazy dream. I don't know if I should be happy or sad waking up in this hospital bed. - Eduardo replied.
However, before his Japanese friend could respond, Samantha entered through the room's door and hugged Eddie as if it were the first or last time they were seeing each other. She hadn't left the edge of the bed for a minute and was upset that her young husband woke up just when she went to the bathroom.
That weekend was different. Despite what Eddie thought, he only suffered minor abrasions and was soon discharged from the hospital, able to go home. Eduardo spent the entire time with his wife and friends. Nakata gathered some who were close, and they decided to have a resurrection barbecue for Eddie. They joked that he was the Highlander - the immortal, among many other playful remarks.
Despite the great weekend, Eduardo kept thinking about his lucid and crazy dream while unconscious. He knew it wasn't just a simple dream. It was all too real. So real that it scared him.
On Monday, the first thing scheduled for 9:00 AM was a tax reduction meeting for a medium-sized electronics company. Eduardo knew the procedure by heart:
– The taxes you're paying are absurd. There's a government plan for tax reduction for companies in your sector. Just hire our services and...
Eduardo blacked out! When he woke up, he was kneeling in a kind of post-apocalyptic futuristic world, completely devastated. The landscape was desolate, and they were at war. There was a beautiful young blonde woman in front of him. She stared into his eyes while Eddie realized that both were hiding from something. Gunshots and deafening sounds of explosions filled the air. He only had time and courage to say:
– Not again... Now I think I've really lost it...
The girl, sensing the confusion in the guy's eyes, said:
– Remember your reincarnations....
Eduardo returned to the present time. Everyone was looking at him as if perplexed by the situation.
