Chapter III - THE MAN OF THE APOCALYPSE

– What are our manuscripts if not nothing more than plagiarism of our previous experiences? Everything you've written could simply have been something you saw, watched, or felt before this crucial moment. I would even say it could be external feelings, alien ones that reached your knowledge, making you think that this idea sprouted within your own being and seizing it like a pirate seizing his loot. – Carlos lectured about this in class, as a philosophy professor at the FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF São Paulo. It was a beautiful sunny summer morning. At least in Brazil, in the United States of America, the cold was already hitting hard, and the news had reported deaths due to the significant drop in temperature. Despite the heat in the Brazilian country, the economy was going from bad to worse, where prices and unemployment were already worrying the population. A country where opposition protests to the government were very common, these had a momentary pause in the face of the upcoming carnival season, reminiscent of more primordial times when the phrase "bread and circus" was constantly remembered. Carlos liked to incorporate all of this into his speeches, in addition to crazy theories about the end of the world, which earned him the famous nickname at the university: THE MAN OF THE APOCALYPSE. – In my opinion, the end of the world has already begun since the infamous NIBIRU 2012. To be honest, it's not the end, it's the beginning of a new era. Unfortunately, many will perish for the world to enter this new vibration. But those who survive will find peace in a new environment, the true and utopian paradise here on Earth. – the professor continued. – Hey, professor, there are various theories about the end of the world at different times and in different cultures; when one turns out to be true, no one will believe it! – interrupted a student, further fueling the ideas discussed there. The professor turned his attention to that student and continued: – Well... All peoples, even unconsciously, always wished for the apocalypse. But the literal translation for this apocalypse, as I told you, is change, renewal! There's no total destruction of the earth. At least not for now. Examples of these changes are: the growing air of hostility among nations and within them as well, such as the pre-civil war we are almost reaching; extreme climate changes that have occurred in recent times; increasingly deadly diseases, as you can see from the Zika Virus and its variants, causing microcephaly in developing fetuses. Wouldn't this have something to do with the fact that the world has over seven billion people? Wouldn't it be a natural birth control that Mother Nature is forced to act when man fails? Suddenly, Professor Carlos was interrupted by the sound signal indicating the end of the class. A general commotion spread through the classroom. The "interest" of the students disappeared from one moment to the next, lost in their phones, rushing to get to the door as soon as possible. Carlos kept thinking aloud: – In the end, it was the fault of the humans themselves who couldn't be satisfied. Poor creatures always seeking more and more... The professor picked up all his belongings and headed out after all the students had left. That was his last class at that college and on that day. He should quickly go to the next college, where he would give the last class before lunch. As usual, Carlos went straight to the parking lot, got into his popular car, a 2014 Fiat Uno, 1.4-liter engine, left the college, and took Avenida Paulista to continue his journey. However, when Carlos least expected it, a figure appeared seemingly out of nowhere in front of his vehicle. The professor couldn't swerve but slammed on the brakes abruptly. Luckily, the nearest car had stayed behind at a traffic light, or the damage would have been much greater. The figure was thrown a few meters forward. Carlos turned on the hazard lights and got out of the car instantly, only to realize that the victim was a well-dressed young man in a suit and tie. The accident happened in front of the Workstation Building...
