CHAPTER 24 - My Destiny

Simone POV   “That’s not fair!” I complained as we walked out of the small room. “You lose the bet, Simone.” He said, cupping my face. He gave me a heart-melting smile. “Now we have to get back to the class…” he pulled me with him passing the empty hall. I occasionally looked in his direction only to see his dorky expression. He won’t stop smiling like a lunatic. “Mr. Cooper, do you know the answer to question no 5?” Mr. James, our math teacher, suddenly asked him as he found Marcus spacing out in his class. Marcus was startled as his name being called. He looked at the question and scratched the back of his head. He must’ve didn’t know the answer, it was actually a rather easy question if only he pays attention to the class. I wrote down the answer on a small piece of paper and handed it to him from under the table. He looked surprised at first, “It was -1. Mr. James.” Marcus replied quickly. Mr. James let out a desperate sigh. “Yes, you’re right. Has anybody got the same answer?” he continued. Marcus mouthed ‘thank you’ towards me. I simply flashed him a quick smile and then switched my attention back to Mr. James’s class. “Thank you for helping me earlier…” Marcus put his arms over my shoulder after we had finished the class. “So, did something good happened to you two? I can see the ‘glow’ from both of you.” Mandy said teasing us. Noah followed beside her, also looking in our direction. “They’re getting married.” Noah spilled the news first before I could pick the right words to explain to Mandy. She looked like she was about to pass out after she heard the news. “You what?! Is that true, Simone? So Marcus is the man that….?” She didn’t complete her words. A hint of disappointment was shown in her eyes. I heaved a sigh while Marcus just smirked. “I’m sorry I never had a chance to told you this, Mandy.” I took her hands, hoping that she could understand me. “Uuugghh… You know I can’t stay mad at you.” She finally said. I hugged her tightly. “Only if you let me be your bridesmaid,” Mandy added. I let out a chuckle. “Of course, Mandy. I was about to ask you that.” I replied in astonishment. The fourth of us continue to walk out of school since we don’t have any class today. “How about some slumber party tonight at my place?” Mandy suggested. It’s been a long time I stayed over at her place. I somehow knew she was about to interrogate me tonight. “Cool, can we come?” Noah asked with a hoping look. “Sorry, boys, girls only tonight,” Mandy said, rejected him. He shrugged his shoulder. “Ok, you both have fun without me,” Noah said, pouted his lips. Has he always been acting this way? I thought they would stop after the homecoming, but I still saw them together at school. They were like gum sticking to each other.   ************************ We were already in our pajamas, sitting comfortably in her theatre room with two big bowls of buttered popcorn. I saw her choosing the same movie again every time I’ve come here. “So, I guessed it was  Twilight marathon again tonight?” I said, stuffing my mouth with popcorn. We both were a big fan of that movie. Sometimes we would even fight over small matters like who to chose between Edward Cullen and Jacob Black. Mandy would be voting for Edward, while I definitely chose Jacob. He was the hottest male that ever walked on earth, of course, his title soon taken by Marcus. Wait, why am I thinking about him right now? “Edward is so fine…” Mandy stated with admiration as soon as the series started and the scene of Cullen’s family entering the school appeared on the big screen. “Stop talking about Edward and more talking about Noah. Are you two dating or something?” I asked her. I still remember their intense make-out session that night at the party. She gulped down her saliva before answering me. “Kind of…” she answered curtly. “Answered me clearly, Mandy. I saw you two that night. I’m just afraid he would hurt you.” I said, concerned. “No, he won’t. Don’t worry about me, Simone. You have a wedding to be taken care of.” She said, switching the topic.    “My dad basically handles everything for me. Don’t you think it was a little bit too fast for you two? You just barely met each other.” I said, moving to that topic again about her and Noah. “He’s my mate. Simone.” Her answer successfully shut my mouth. I can’t believe that Noah is her mate. I felt happy for her, but I also can’t deny that I felt a little bit jealous. She was happily having a relationship with her mate, while I would be marrying the man who’s clearly not my mate. “Wow, how did you know he was your mate?” I asked her back. “It was very intense, Simone. The moment our hands touch each other. You just knew it.” She said, blushing. “How about the kiss?” I couldn’t help myself from asking her this. I want to know if it was better than what I felt with Marcus. “When we kissed, it felt like our souls had collided into one. There’s no Mandy and Noah anymore. Ahhhh… I don’t know how to explain this to you.” She said in frustration as she raked her hair messily with her hands. From what she said, I could tell that what I felt with Marcus was only lust. While what she had with Noah is entirely different. I wonder, is it enough to get married over lust? “What about you, Simone? Do you feel the same way with Marcus?” she suddenly asked me back. Which cause tears started to flood in my eyes. “He’s not my mate, Mandy,” I stated painfully. She hugged me and rubbed my back to comfort me. “It’s okay, Simone. As long as he loves you, it's all that matters. I could tell that he would do anything for you or even jumped off the cliff.” She continued. “Am I doing the wrong thing? My dad chose him for me.” I sobbed in her chest, making her pajamas wet with my tears. “No, you’re not. You’re a strong woman, and you did this for your pack. Simone. How if your mate is only a mere omega? He wouldn’t be able to protect you nor your pack from another attack. Marcus is the perfect match for you.” She said, assuring me. She’s right. I was the daughter of the alpha. My destiny is to protect my pack and be their leader. I swore I won’t shed any more tears just because of my silly childhood dream.
