Panic filled her as she sat on the floor of the van, they had been driving for a while now, hours had passed and every mile brought another wave of dread over her. No windows in the van gave her no choice but to look through the grate near the driver as Rose pushed herself over to side near the grate and stood up.
Luckily they hadn’t tied her up so it was easy for her to brace herself as she moved to look out the only view she had. The road outside was still dark, the only light was the moon. The van didn’t even have headlights on but even to her eyes, as diminished as they were from having her wolf suppressed, the dirt road they were on was easy to see.
Suddenly a fist hit the grate in front of her eyes causing her to fall back onto the hard metal surface, pain shooting up her arm. A deep cynical laugh came from the front, “Are you a curious little spitfire.”
Wincing as she moved to sit up, she pushed herself as far from the grate meeting his eyes through the rearview mirror. Anger filled her as she could see the smug smirk on his face, “Now sweetheart, no need to be that way. You’re going to like your new home.” He licked his lips, “Think of all new people you’re going to meet. Heck, once they have you properly trained I might stop by for a visit with you myself.”
She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to shield herself from him, her body trembling in anger and disgust at the thought of that man touching her in that way. Is this what had happened to the other girls.
He laughed again, “Not feeling very chatty they sweetheart?” he was mocking her now, “Don’t worry, we’re going to be stopping to see an old friend of yours and get you fitted with a shiny new collar.”
Rose’s eyes went wide and every hair on her body stood on end. No, he couldn’t be talking about him. Her breath became short as if her lungs were struggling to take in air, her body turned cold at the mere idea of seeing that man again.
“He’s excited to see you again. You should have seen him when they called asking to trade you off.” He knew his words were getting to her, “Normally, you would go straight to your new home but that damn Alpha put a command to silence his little wolves that can’t be undone without some extra help. Your next home wants to hear your sweet voice.”
Anger began to build inside her, Rose hated that man, the man that killed her parents, that stole her life, that tormented her dreams. Rouge Alpha Nix.
“He likes the idea of making you practice begging before delivering you.” His laugh echoed through the van, ringing in her ears.
No. No way she was going back there. She could no longer hear him as the rage and revulsion boiled inside her. All Rose could see was red. She would not be going back to Nix unless it was to rip his head off.
Rose could feel her body getting hot as her breathing became labored and heavy, something building inside her. He was still talking but none of the words were reaching her ears as she somehow stood up without even bracing herself on anything.
She was not going back to him, that was her last thought as her body felt like it was on fire. It was as if every bone in her body was breaking and their was nothing she could do to stop it. Rose fought the pain, trying to hold herself together.
I will free you.
A voice she never heard before broke through the rage.
Let go.
Without even questioning it, she trusted the voice. She let the pain consume her and let the voice surround her soul. All the rage simmered and turned into a glowing warmth. Rose could feel her body move, but it all felt unfamiliar yet natural.
She could only feel the metal of the van as her body slammed into it, trying to break down the doors. The squeal of the breaks caused the car to swerve but her body remained steady as it slammed into the metal once more, the door buckling under the force.
“What do you think your doing? How did you?” she could hear the fear in his voice. A growl erupted from deep inside that she didn’t know she could even make causing him to flinch. His hands ended up turning the wheel forcing them into the snow.
The last contact with metal caused it to give, exposing her to the cold as it made contact with her bare feet. Odd, she remembered having shoes on, but that didn’t matter now. The sounds of yelling and the look of panic on his face brought joy to her. The copper taste of blood filled her mouth, and nothing had ever tasted so good as the satisfaction of wiping the smug look off this sleazeball’s face.
Then Rose ran, she didn’t know where she was and where she was headed but she was not going back. Her body hit with the icy wind as she ran the opposite way in which the van had been going. She had never been this fast, her heart had never felt so light.
The sun had started to rise, peaking through the forest trees, as she ran without a care in the world. All Rose new at that moment was that she was free for the first time in a long time and she was never giving it up.
