Chapter 8: A Visit From the Doctor

2326 Words
Rose reread the note again before placing it on the nightstand, her reach causing the comforter to fall from her form reveling her figure. That was when she realized that she was naked. Pulling the comforter back over her she looked around in a panic for her clothes. What happened to her clothes? Who had undressed her? Had Hunter seen her naked? A blush crept up her cheeks at that last thought. She threw the blanket over her head, hoping the darkness could swallow her up. Rose would have screamed if she could have. Deciding that she needed to clean herself up, she crept out of the bed, pulling the sheet from the bed to cover herself with. She was not about to be caught walking around a man’s room naked. She stumbled a bit making sure to move slow as her body was still sore deciding that the double doors must leave to the rest of the house, and she was not ready for that, so she made her way to the door beside the fireplace. She knocked, just in case but was glad there was no answer before she opened the door. Inside was the largest closet she had ever seen; Rose walked inside and saw that only one side of the closet was filled with clothing, all male. She ran her fingers over the fabrics before stopping and bringing the hem of a black t-shirt to her nose, inhaling the scent. This was one of his favorites, it smelled strongly of him meaning he wore it often. Shaking her head, she moved out of the closet and onto the next door which did turn out to be a bathroom. Stepping in she was in awe as she looked around at the gray stone and white tile. As she looked about the bathroom she stopped, going wide eyed at what she saw. In the mirror staring back at her was someone she didn’t recognize. Stepping forward she touched the glass and then her own features not believing her own eyes. The dark circles, hallow eyes, and cracked lips were all gone. In their stead was bright green eyes, full, flush cheeks, pink smooth lips. Even her hair had gone from stringy and greasy to full and bright; it framed the curve of her face and fell in red waves down past her shoulders. What had happened to her? What else had changed? Taking a deep breath, she pulled off the sheet and let it fall to the floor, exposing herself to the mirror. She couldn’t help but stare. Her figure was no longer thin but full and toned, skin was smooth as she ran her fingers over her form. She turned this way and that but could find no trace of any scars or bruising as if the past twelve years were nothing but a nightmare. The only evidence left of her old life was the collar that hung around her neck and the bandages that covered her skin. She had touched it earlier and it was still tender. What had happened to her the other night? Another paper caught her eye as it sat upon a stack of assorted toiletries and towels. Picking it up she couldn’t help but smile. In case you felt well enough and wanted to freshen up, please feel free to use these items. As I said before, make yourself at home. A hot bath would definitely help you feel better. Hunter She had originally planned to wipe her body down with a washcloth, but a bath sounded wonderful, especially a hot one. Picking through the items he left, she grabbed a loofa and body wash, smelling it to find it scented like the forest. She liked that it was refreshing yet very male. He must have raided his own bathroom to find these items for her, each one new and unopened. Rose walked over to the tub which was big enough to fit three of her and was lucky the nobs were easy to figure out as the tub filled with water. She braided her hair, twisting it up into her head to keep it off her shoulders. Once it was ready, she let her body sink into the steaming hot water, the heat feeling amazing on her sensitive skin. She had never felt something this incredible in her life, as the steam and heat swirled around her, invading her senses. Rose let her body sink into the heat making sure her bandages stayed above water. Taking the loofa she scrubbed herself clean as her aching muscles enjoyed the warmth. After some time, she stepped out of the tub, wrapping herself with a large gray towel and decided to fix herself up a bit. She would officially be meeting Hunter for the first time soon and she wanted to make a good impression, not sure why it was important to her, but her heart beat a little faster at the thought of him looking at her in approval. Going through the items he left for her, she found a razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, and lotion that had the same scent as the bodywash. Taking her time she made her attempt to make herself presentable, finishing off by rubbing the lotion onto her skin, working it over area in which her muscles were still a but sore, hoping to rub out the kinks. Looking at herself in the mirror, she liked what she saw, a smile grazing her lips. Suddenly, she heard a voice in the bedroom, bringer her from her thoughts. A feeling of panic filled her when she noticed the voice was female. Did he have a girlfriend, a female who felt comfortable to simply walk into his room? Her heart ached at that thought. A knock on the bathroom door caused her breath to hitch, “Ma’am, are you in there, it’s Doctor Porter.” Thinking back on the note, he had told her that a Doctor Porter would be stopping by to see her. A wave of relief overcame her. She made her way slowly to the door, before turning the handle and peaking out at her through a crack. There stood an older woman, her short black hair was peppered with grays, matching her gray eyes, that were slightly hidden by her glasses. A wore a smile that caused the lines near the corner of her eyes to be visible. Her plump figure was hidden by a doctor’s coat as she held a clipboard to her chest, “Hello, I’m glad to see that you are up and about.” She opened the door a bit more, making sure the towel was still in place, making her glad that it reached her knees covering most of her. This woman was very warm and welcoming, as she waited for Rose to come out, as if she was understanding of her hesitation. “Is now a good time to check your bandages or would you like me to come back after you have eaten? I’m sure you must be starving.” She motioned for the small table in the alcove making Rose fully exit the bathroom to see what she was talking about. Sitting on the table was a tray with a silver hood. Someone must have come in while she was in the tub and she never noticed. Her stomach chose that moment to growl causing her to wince and met the eye of the doctor, who continued to smile at her, “I think you need food more than anything. Come over and maybe we can talk while you eat.” She followed the doctor to the table who removed the lid and placed it leaning on wall behind the chair. She turned and motioned for her to sit at the other chair which Rose did, eyes never leaving the food. On the tray was a small plate with a lightly seasoned chicken breast with a side of brown rice, a bowl of vegetable soup, another small bowl of mixed fruit, and a glass of water with lemon next to a full pitcher. “Please eat, take your time, I cleared my entire afternoon, so I am in no hurry.” She said as she sat on the opposite chair. Rose nodded before picking up the utensils and began to cut the chicken before placing a piece in her mouth. She moaned, as she had never tasted something so good. This reaction made the doctor smile. The Doctor leaned back in the chair and crossed her legs, placing her clipboard in her lap, “So, what’s your name?” Rose looked at her, unsure of how to answer. How did she explain that she couldn’t speak? She thought about, and it must have shown on her face because the doctor lifted her hands, "If you don’t feel comfortable telling me, please don’t worry.” She immediately dropped her utensils on her plate and raised her own hands and motioned “no” shaking her head at the misunderstanding. Bringing her hand to her lips she motioned it away from her open mouth and then shook her head. Rose hoped she understood. “You can’t speak. Is that it?” Rose shook her head, looking solemnly at her. “Were you born mute or was it an injury of some kind?” she asked pulling a pen out, her voice laced with genuine concern. Rose shook her hand and motioned for the band around her neck. “Your band prohibits you from speaking?” she went wide eyed. A quick nod and she motioned to her, asking for something to write with. It would be the quickest way to communicate. “Something to write with, of course.” She got up and walked over to a medical bag that was sitting on the bed and after a quick grab, she returned with a notepad and pen, handing it over to her. She nodded her head with a smile and wrote out her name before showing it to the doctor. “Rose. That’s a beautiful name. Well Rose, finish eating. We are in no hurry.” She laughed slightly, a motherly smile on her face before she turned to her clipboard to write somethings down. Rose smiled back and continued her meal while the doctor waited and took her notes. It was a little unnerving to be observed this way. Once her meal was done the doctor asked her to move to sit on the edge of the bed. “Well, I’m very happy that you are up and about. Are you in any pain?” Just sore. Neck is tender. She wrote on the pad. “That’s expected. Have you ever shifted before, Rose?” she asked as she began to remove her bandages. Rose looked at her confused before taking the pad and quickly writing, Can’t shift, never met wolf cause of band. “I don’t know how to tell you, Rose, but you shifted and recently which is why your neck hurts. Did you have any injuries before the other night that are gone now?” she continued to exam her neck. Bruises, a split lip. body different today. Better. “Your wolf healed you as much as it could before retreating to heal itself most likely. I did some research on bands like yours. It suppresses your wolf but still allows a minuscule amount of it healing abilities to come through to help heal you, but it never mentioned that you couldn’t access your wolf at all.” She had gloves on now to apply ointment to her neck. “Your neck is healing nicely, another day or two and you should be good. We are going to leave the bandages off to let it air out and I’ll leave the ointment for you to apply. Once you are ready, I would love for you to come to the clinic for some X-rays. Would that be okay with you.” Rose nodded, and the doctor smiled. “I want you to continue to rest. Eat and drink plenty of fluids. If you have any discomfort or pain before you come see me, please have me notified and I will come back.” Thank you for everything. She handed the pad and pen to the doctor. She stood, and placed her items back in her bag, “I will leave you the notepad and pen if you need it,” handing the items to her, a motherly smile on her face, “It was very nice to meet you, Rose. I look forward to seeing you again. Please take care of yourself.” Waving as she walked to the door, Rose waved back, “I will let Alpha know of your progress. I’m sure he will be pleased.” And then she was gone. Alpha. She was in the room of an Alpha. Her eyes went wide. How had it not occurred to her that she was making herself comfortable and using the items of an Alpha as if she was anybody important. She looked around the room and looked back at herself. She was still in nothing but a towel. Rose blushed at the though of being naked in an Alpha’s room and decided she should at least put on a shirt; would he mind if she borrowed one of his? Taking the chance, she went to the closet and grabbed that shirt she had held earlier, the hem falling to her mid-thigh. Nothing else in the closet would fit on her form. This would have to do. Walking back into the room, she looked around and decided that while she waited, she would do something that would be the least disruptive to the room. Rose walked over to the bookshelf and let her fingers graze the spines and she read the titles, a smile on her lips. She was in heaven.
