Chapter 9: Meeting a Rose

2016 Words
Hunter sat impatiently in the office, half listening to all the reports being given to him, his mind wondering back to the little wolf sleeping in his bed. Had she woken up? Had she found his notes? Was she eating properly? A million questions running through his head all about her which led his mind to wonder. Was she going to take his advice about the bath? He worried if she would know how to work the tub, making him picture her curvy frame taking a soak in his tub, welcoming him to join her. At the moment, his Beta was reporting about the border situation and how patrols were being doubled when he heard his name being called and looked up. His Beta c****d his eyebrow, “You’re not even listening, are you?” He immediately straightened up and cleared his throat, “Of course I am. Patrols are being doubled, sounds good.” “Actually, that was what we were discussing ten minutes ago, we’ve moved on to creating new housing on the western side of town to accommodate the growing numbers.” A smirk on his face, “Someone on your mind.” He growled, “Mind your business.” Damian chuckled, “If you’re that worried, then just go check on her. She is literally down the hall. Noting is stopping you.” “Let’s get back to work.” He turned back to the papers and tried to focus. It was easier said than done. ----- Hunter looked up at the clock on his desk, it was nearly noon and Doctor Porter messaged him that she would come by around eleven. He had even been notified that she had arrived and that she was currently in the room with his little wolf. His. She wasn’t his though. He was only meant to save her, protect her. That was it. Damian had left to submit some paperwork for the new housing, leaving him alone to think about what he was going to do next. Zeus, what do we do now? He asked Was told to protect her. Keep her safe until she is ready. Who told you? Ready for what? Moon. Moon said girl needed help. Showed us the way to her. We protect her. Free her. The Moon? Free her from what? Moon said we would know what she need. Give her what she needs. Zeus growled. Hunter growled at his wolf. This information only brought along more questions than answers. How was he supposed to know what she needed, to take care of her? He ran his hands through his hair and thought about going for a run, but then worried about not being here when the doctor finished with the girl. All he could do was stare at the clock as it was now twelve -fifteen. The numbers mocking him as he pulled out his phone to contact the one female who might be able to help him, his cousin Gabriella. She answered on the third ring. “To what do I owe the pleasure of a phone call from the Alpha of Snow Haven instead of mind-link?” her voice light and playful. “I need your help with something. Would you mind stopping by when you have a chance?” he paused and took a deep breath, “I need a woman’s advice.” A giggle could be heard over the phone, “Oh my, has the Alpha fallen in love with the lost pup he found in the snow?” “How did you find out about that already.” He growled. “When the Alpha comes back with a rouge she-wolf and locks her away in his room with no explanation, the news gets around. So, tell me. Is she your mate?” He growled, “Not that it’s any of your business, but it’s complicated. I just need your help, so will you come to the pack house or not.” “Only if you promise to explain what you mean by complicated once I arrive. I want all the details about what’s going on with your little girlfriend.” He groaned, “You’re not going to let this go, are you?” “Not a chance. It’s not every day that you are in the hot seat like this so I am going to enjoy it for as long as I can. Do we have a deal?” he could hear the smirk in her voice. “Fine, I promise I will explain everything if you come and help me.” “I’ll stop by later today. Do I need to bring anything.” He thought about it for a second, “Things a girl would need.” She scoffed, “Well, that’s helpful. I’ll see what I can do. Bye, Hunter. And remember. Just be yourself.” Another giggle before she hung up, not giving him a chance to answer. He groaned before placing his phone down then running his hands through his hair. Wanting to scream but was stopped by a knock on his door. The door slowly opened to revel Doctor Porter, a serious look on her face that made his stomach drop. Was something wrong with her? Was her condition worse than they had originally thought? “Alpha, do you have a moment?” She asked standing in the doorway. “Of course,” he stood motioning for one of the chairs in front of his desk, “Please have a seat.” She nodded and sat before him, as he sat back down himself, “I just finished seeing our visitor and she is up and walking around. I-,” she paused and looked down at the clipboard as if trying to think of what to say, “I think that she is in real trouble. Medically she is fine, but I would still like to do a full check up at the hospital, but she didn’t even realize that she shifted the other night. She told me that her body has completely healed itself, minus the burns on her neck.” “She didn’t know she shifted?” he asked. How did you shift and not realize it? The doctor nodded, “When I asked if she had ever shifted before she said that she can’t shift. The band doesn’t allow her to and that she has never met her wolf.” “Then how did she shift last night?” “My best guess,” she paused, a long sigh escaped her lips, “Something traumatic was happening, her emotions must have been erratic to the point her wolf used all of its strength and pushed through to save her, help her escape. Coming out caused all her other injuries to heal but fighting against the band by shifting caused the burns on neck.” His fist clenched on his lap at the thought of someone hurting her, “Did she tell you what happened to her?” Shaking her head, “No, we didn’t really get to talk about much.” She shifted in her seat, “One more thing I should mention.” He raised an eyebrow, “And that is?” “The band has another effect on her.” she once again fiddled with her clipboard, “She cannot speak. The band doesn’t allow her to talk.” He leaned forward, “Then how did you communicate with her?” “She wrote it down, I left the pad and pen with her.” He nodded not sure how to handle this information, she stood, “I’ll call tomorrow to check up and set up that appointment for her.” “Thank you again, doctor.” He stood as well and extended his hand, “I really appreciate you doing all this.” “It is my pleasure, Alpha.” She shook his hand before making her way to the door and opening it, “by the way, her name is Rose.” Then he was alone again. Should he go see her now? Would that be weird? “Rose,” he said her name out loud as if he was trying to summon her. Just the sound of her name made him weak as he pictured her in his mind. Hunter groaned and made his way to his room just stopping in front of the double doors. Taking the handle, he turned the door and stepped in scanning the room only to see a sight that would forever be ingrained in his memories. She stood on her toes in front of the bookshelf giving him a side view of her, his eyes moved up the length of her leg, the black shirt she wore rode up her body as she attempted to reach from something on a higher shelf. Her red hair pinned up with some loose stands surrounding her face showing off her emerald eyes. A groan escaped his lips at the thought of pulling her to him, claiming her. She must have heard him because suddenly she turned to face him and panic filled her features as she looked down at herself and back at him. Before he could even react, she sped off to the bathroom, slamming the door. What had just happened? Hunter closed the door to his room and took a few steps towards the bathroom when the door opened slightly, and her arm reached out holding the shirt along with a note. He took it from her, and her arm shot back into the bathroom before closing the door. He looked down at the note, Please forgive me. I should have asked before borrowing your clothes. He groaned, this girl was going to be the death of him, a smile on his lips, his mind wondering to the fact that she was now naked again. Looking down at the shirt in his hands, he realized it was actually one of his favorite shirts which made him smile even more that she would choose this one out of all the shirts in his closet. “Rose, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you, please take the shirt, and put it on.” Making sure his voice was soft as he extended the shirt back to the door. Slowly the door opened at the same delicate hand reached out and took possession of the shirt and once again closed the door. He waited a couple of seconds before the door opened fully again to show him the beautiful sight of her. She fiddled with the hem of the shirt, her bare toes pointed inward as she stared at the ground, not meeting his eyes. He watched her lips mouthed, thank you. “I’m sorry I didn’t think of finding you clothes.” he looked away eyes seeing the tray on the table before he walked over and lifted the hood and saw the that she had eaten all of it, “I’m glad you enjoyed the meal, Cassie is the best cook. Just let her know which are your favorites and she can make them for you.” He looked back at her and saw a small scowl on her face for a split second then it was gone as she looked up at him and nodded. What should he say to her? He walked over to the bookshelf, “What book were you trying to get, let me help you.” She followed him, notepad in hand, but stopped him, shaking her head. She looked down and scribbled something on the pad before looking up and showing him, Only looking, please don’t worry. He sighed and sat on the edge of the bed, “Would you like to talk, watch a movie,” he motioned to the T.V, “or I can leave you alone to rest.” He tried not to sound broken at the end, but it still sounded a tad sad. She scribbled something and walked over to him, showing him the pad, I would love to talk, if you like?
