The faint caress of fingers on his cheeks had Rowan's eyes fluttering open. He stared dazily at the person in front of him, not quite taking in his surroundings in his sleepy haze.
A hand gently traced the slope of his nose. “Good morning. Did you sleep well?”
The familiar voice chased any lingering sleep and Rowan's eyes widened when he recognized the face in front of him. “Adrian!”
The other gave him a smile. “You look pretty in your sleep.”
That made Rowan sit up pretty fast. “What the f**k are you doing in my room?”
“Your room?” Adrian repeated with a raised eyebrow. He sat up, running his fingers through his hair.
“You're in my house, captain.”
Rowan looked around the room. Unfamiliar dark walls and furniture stared back at him and he felt his heart sink.
The alpha's eyes lowered to the clothes he was wearing. Silk blue pajamas and not the suit he was wearing last night.
“I'm leaving.” He made to stand up but a sharp pain in his waist had him collapsing to the floor. “What the f**k?”
Adrian crouched beside him, brows furrowed in worry. “You shouldn't have gotten up so fast, captain.”
Rowan's eyes fell on the mirror and his eyes widened at his own reflection. His neck which wasn't covered by the collar was littered with red marks and hickeys.
The alpha pulled at the neckline, exposing more and the memories of last night flashed through his mind.
“The last thing I remember was going to the restroom.” He looked at Adrian. “What did you do to me?”
“What did I do to you?” Adrian tilted his head, lips curling. “You were in rut last night and I helped out.”
“Isn't that generous of me?”
Rowan's eyes widened. “So we…” he cut himself off, unable to say it.
How could this have happened? His rut wasn't supposed to come till another week and now—
“Yes,” Adrian murmured, interrupting his thoughts. “I f****d you last night and we both enjoyed it.”
“f**k you,” Rowan spat, eyes narrowed in anger.
“I was the one who did the f*****g, captain.” Adrian smiled at him. “You weren't complaining.”
Rowan stood up from the ground, ignoring the pain flaring in his waist and hips. It felt like his insides had been battered and every movement felt like a punishment. He bit back a wince as he headed for the door.
Adrian was beside him, hands extended to steady him. “Let me help you with the—”
Rowan slapped the hand away with a scowl. “Keep your hands to yourself, Voss.”
His eyes blazed with anger as he looked at Adrian. “Don't you ever touch me again.”
The playful look on Adrian's face vanished and his jaw tightened. “I was only trying to help.”
Rowan felt slight satisfaction at that. He couldn't be the only one suffering. “Well I don't need your help.”
“I've never needed it.” He glanced at the room. “Where are my clothes?”
Adrian shrugged, crossing his arms. “They're ruined. I had to throw them away.”
Rowan's gaze fell on his phone atop the bedside drawer and he snatched it, sending a quick text of his location to his driver.
He looked up at Adrian. “You'll not tell anyone what happened between us and we're gonna pretend this never happened.”
“And you will stay the hell away from me.” He poked a finger at Adrian's chest in warning.
“What will happen if I don't stay away, captain?” the other asked, eyes falling to Rowan's lips. “You didn't seem to hate it when I—”
Rowan shoved him hard, sending him stumbling back. “If you come near me again, I'll f*****g punch you in the face.”
With that, he walked out of the room.
Navigating Adrian's house wasn't difficult. Rowan slowly descended the stairs, mindful of his soreness while cursing Adrian in his mind.
“So you're the reason why my son was too busy to see me,” a voice said and Rowan paused, gaze falling on the man seated comfortably on the sofa.
The alpha's heart sank as he recognized the man. Everyone in Virelia city knew who he was.
Damien Voss, CEO of Voss industries, one of the top conglomerates in the world and as Rowan's rotten luck would have it, turned out to be Adrian's father.
How convenient.
“I didn't know you were friends,” Damien continued, crossing his legs.
Rowan swallowed. “I'm… I—”
“He was just leaving,” came Adrian's voice from atop the stairs.
Rowan lifted his head and their eyes met. The other's face gave nothing away and he let out a sharp inhale, grip tightening around his phone.
“Is that so?” Damien murmured. “That's a shame. I thought we could have breakfast together.”
“I have something urgent to do,” Rowan said, meeting Damien's eyes. “It was a pleasure meeting you, sir.”
“So polite,” the older man mumbled. “Adrian should learn a thing from you.”
Rowan was unsure how to respond to that.
“That’s enough,” Adrian interrupted, calmly descending the stairs. He grabbed Rowan's arm and without a word, dragged him away.
“Be sure to drop by sometime,” Damien called after them and Adrian scoffed under his breath.
Rowan shrugged off his arm as soon as they were outside. “I told you not to touch me.”
Adrian's face was expressionless. “Let's hope you can keep up the energy for the next match.”
“See you soon, captain.” With that, he turned and walked back inside.
“Asshole,” Rowan murmured and headed to the gate, ignoring the inquisitive gazes of the maids in the garden.
This was the last time they were going to see him anyways.
A black jeep was parked at the front and Rowan got in, closing his eyes. “Did my parents call?”
“Yes, sir.” The driver started the vehicle. “They asked what time you'll be visiting.”
Rowan's muscles ached and his skin felt foreign. He couldn't bear his parents harsh words.
That would just make things worse.
“Tell them that I'm busy with training,” he murmured, opening his eyes.
He switched off his phone and carelessly flung it on the seat.
“Okay, sir.”
Rowan knew that his parents would be livid, especially his father. But he could deal with their anger some other time.
Right now, he needed a hot shower.
The alpha leaned back and closed his eyes, the low engine hum lulling him to sleep.
