We do ultrasounds. Nothing. We do blood tests. Nothing. Lola even takes five pregnancy tests that all come out negative.
After the sixth ultrasound, the doctor sighs heavily, the physical exhaustion on his face evident. "I'm sorry Luna, but there's no baby."
"Then do another!" She snarls, launching herself at him. I quickly wrap my arms around her tiny frame, holding her back. She struggles against me, almost breaking free.
Her strength is incredible. I'm one of the strongest beings on the planet and she's making me work for it.
"Lola, baby relax." My voice instantly soothes her. She sinks into my embrace, eyes morphing into their natural brown state. I know she doesn't want my comfort, but it's the only calming thing around her.
"I know I'm pregnant."
