Chapter Six June 1869 The group arrived at the first yellow fence post before noon. The post was on the northeast corner, and the ranch buildings were only about a mile to the southwest. They inspected the ranch house first and agreed to use it as a base for their explorations. Ira had also built a good road to it, and it was still well maintained. The new road up to Grant and Angelina’s cabin was in worse shape because it was new and had been used by the cabin builders. Even though it was almost dark, Grant had to talk Angelina out of going up to see her new home. Grant left the six mares in the corral until he could see what the situation was at his cabin.
